The fact is that you would need a crystal ball to predict the future, but the euro is definitely on the slide at the moment.

If you want to buy currency for encashment later, buy US Dollars now, not next week NOW! - You can always exchange them for €s or £s later.
Little Legs - if you do buy £2000 worth of euro (or dollar) cash now where are you going to keep them safe? Will your home insurance cover it? Would refundable travellers cheques be a better idea? Also, what happens if the slide causes a slump in holiday business and the tour operator cancels the holiday?
my head hurts just thinking about it
Why not buy premium bonds with the money now, which you can cash in, in time for your holiday.
Keep your £2000 in the bank and earn some interest on it, that way, if rates don't get any better by Sept at least you'll be a little better off for it.
Even better, stick it in a 6 month notice account. Not only should you get better interest but it will stop the temptation to dip into it for other things.

my husband cashed his excess euros from our last holiday and the exchange rate back to £ was so bad he actually lost about £7 on only about £50 worth grrr so if changing back look at the rate carefully, we had exchanged at £1.12 ish so he got around 53.5 euro after 2.50 euro commission was taken off in madeira but when we changed at the post office he got £1.25 to change back and only got just under £43, he didnt have time to shop around so might have found a better rate although the post office are usually ok, ive kept mine, but he didnt want to lol
You've got the time to wait, so I'd hold off for a while. US$ are very good in eurolands, so if you get them you may get a better rate than you would for sterling.
