in my opinion there has been a fairly big increase in prices over the last few years, so i would say no its not cheap any more, still slightly cheaper than the uk for some things but dearer for others, a lot of uk pubs near me are doing 2 for 1 meal deals etc and this can beat turkish meal prices, it wont stop me from going to turkey though as i love the place and the people, weather etc, it really depends how cheap you are expecting

I guess it depends what you mean by cheap. I agree though it's not as it used to be, but it needn't be like it is at home. Depends what you eat, what you drink I suppose.

As I like to try lots of fish dishes to me, yes it is still cheap. But I'm comparing having something like swordfish here - you will pay £15 or more for something like that in, say an Italian restaurant here but I checked prices at a seafront popular bar/restaurant in Olu Deniz just yesterday and you're only talking about £7 for the same sort of thing. Yet for many that is not cheap for main meal.

I think it is wrong to compare turkey prices with uk prices ,but compared to most holiday destinations i would say it is a lot cheaper ,all depends what you buy .or spend your money on .It is still the place for me as it would need to be really extortionate prices to keep me away.

Prices have definitely gone up in the last couple of years in tourist resorts but if you know where to go you can get cheap meals and drinks. Look out for where the locals go and you can be sure to find good value.

Many thanks to all of you - the last time we were in Turkey it was really cheap you could get a T bone steak for around £8.00 and local beers were lots cheaper too. Im comparing to Spain because for the last 4yrs we have holidayed in Tenerife and gone half board. Just fancy Turkey again this year and going self catering hence the questions.

Again many thanks.

we went to turkey in 2004, then again last year

there is a difference in prices, but in my opinion it is still better value than spain.....

Claire my hairdressers parents went to the Antique Palace last September and she said it only cost the £350 each for 2 weeks AI.
That is almost as cheap as self catering.

I have just had a quick break in Benidorm over the weekend and couldn't find anywhere I wanted to eat.

We stayed at the back of the resort so was walking miles every day and if I wanted Chinese or places that sold English breakfast or the likes of pie and chips etc then there were plenty but in my opinion you will not find restaurants anywhere like you do in the Turkish beach resorts for value for money and for quality.

Hi
I've just been to Benidorm for a week and found it to quite expensive compared to Icmeler and the welcome form our turkish friends more than makes up for any increases in price compared to the manners and attitude of the spanish people who served us last week.

Given all the latest press coverage about the exchange rate between sterling and the euro, I think Turkey will seem reasonable compared to a lot of popular holiay destinations. The rate today on xe.com is 2.60 YTL which has improved a lot on the beginning of the year. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/40813/Shock-700-increase-on-family-Holidays

Is Turkey still cheap? Compared to when I first started going in 1988 when is was ridiculously so then I would say no
However Is Turkey still good value then the answer is definately, Yes The only thing that I feel has gone up significantly over the last 10 years is Wine You used to be able to have a bottle of wine with your meal and like everything else it was much cheaper than at home but now the wine is more expensive than the UK Everything else I still find more reasonable than back home

How much would you pay for a bottle of wine? I need my nightly fix!! :cheers

last year we paid for SAPHIR in love boat or venice about 28 tyl and in the small supermarket about 15tyl,like this wine ,that makes it about £11 in resteraunt.

toastedmallow, You would be far better taking your own Wine to Turkey in your suitcase as wine is expensive, It's much cheaper in the Uk and also much nicer, This is a personal view.
