Hi Miss Pink
In reply to your questions about places to go, Juby seems to have answered them very well and made some good suggestions. Dunns River Falls is a must for first time visitors but again don't get ripped off by the hotels. Even people staying in Ocho Rios hotels book expensive trips to go to the Falls when they can even walk there in less than 1/2 hour or get a local cab for 200 Jamaican or so , about £2 or $3US.
If you want to go exploring the island, spend a day finding the right taxi driver, get quotes for everywhere you might want to go. They will try it on at first but you can barter them down to the real price. Once you find the right guy you can always use him throughout your holiday. Remember that an average wage for a taxi driver in Jamaica is only about £100 or $150 per week so they are willing to do a long distance trip, taking all day, and charge you £80 for 10 hours work with petrol included with the car full of passengers. You most of all need one who is a good talkative character and knowledgable tour guide.
Visit Blue Mountain (and take some coffee home with you, it's the best and most expensive in the World). Black River and Treasure Beach are lovely quiet places in the South and very cheap. Negril is worth a visit but very expensive. Montego Bay is not as nice as it used to be for us. Ocho Rios in St.Ann is the place we love best and going out to St.Mary, Bosobel and Oraccabessa is really nice (visit Noel Cowards House, Fire Fly and James Bond Beach) and further away Port Antonio is another beautiful place.
