Ah that was lovely to read, thanks for posting. You part re the flight brought back memories for me from last year. I recall my little girl crying for what felt to me like forever, simply awful, not only for me but the poor passangers sat near her!!

Well my daughter and I are off to Icmeler in 2 weeks, going it alone for the first time. Any tips for us? I'd like to walk around and eat at different places, maybe in village but unsure where it is.

Any guidance appreciated.

I prefer to stay and eat in the village area. Depend on where you stay in village its usually only about 10 minute gentle stroll to main part of town.

If you are in the main town and know where the POP Inn used to be, just follow that road up past Romance Palace and continue for about 10 minutes. Great restaurants on this road include OZZYS, my favourite, Harry Rams, Robin Hood ,Sonys Lovestar Cubana and others.

Where are you staying

If you're walking up that road, past the Romance Palace, on the left hand side youll find a new restaurant, the Lal. Traditional Ottoman style - not a chip in sight! What a find it turned out to be for us - everything about it is wonderful, from the authentic caonpy with cushioned bench seating to the fantastic food and attentive, helpful staff. We ate here twice during our week's stay and they were the best meals we had all week - and that's saying something, as we've yet to have a bad meal in Icmeler. Definitely one of our favourite places now - do try it, you won't be disappointed.

Stewart,

Seems you had a mixed bag but enjoyed it none the less, good report to read. Off to Marmaris on the 9th July but the good lady and I always go through to Icmeler for a meal. Do you know if the Love Boat is still open ?

very witty review, youve hit the nail on the head with the ladies of a certain age thing,i think sadly icmeler has become an attraction for more mature single ladies, every year it becomes more and more noticable,i go a few times a year to see family sometimes with other half sometimes without but i must confess i am becoming slightly uncomfortable going without him,as i am also a lady of a certain age and would be mortified if other tourists thought i was there for the men, october is in particular a popular month for all the single ladies!!!!!! :yikes

I go every October and cant say I have noticed many "single ladies"!
I used to go away with my mother-in-law ,her sister and her friend every October a few years ago but it was because the husbands didnt want to go on holiday. We certainly were not looking for young men. :yikes
We didnt go to Turkey in those days, but went to sedate Jersey. :rofl :rofl :rofl

hi, blondiescot
we are going to icmeler next week and we were hoping to buy some clothes, sunglasses, belts and maybe watches.
do you know how much they are to buy? :)

It depends what you're looking for and how much you're prepared to haggle, to be honest. You can get everything from cheap fakes at the market to the real McCoy, so it's hard to give examples of prices. I'm not much of a shopper anyway (although I am partial to the odd handbag!) My best advice would be to shop around and if you see something you fancy, compare prices in a few places and make them an offer. Oh, and if you're at the market, make sure you check the quality and size of each item you buy. It has been known for the stallholders to show you the best quality stuff, then stick the cheaper ones (in random sizes) in the bag when they hand it to you!

Getting from Marmaris to Icmeler is easy and the journey will probably take between 10 and 15 mins. It depends on where you are staying in Marmaris though. The dolmus service is brilliant and they run every few minutes. You only need to stick your arm out and you can stop one anywhere.

It may be that you can get one dolmus straight along there from the main road that runs straight through Marmaris. Alternatively it might be that you need 2 for instance if you are staying in the Armutulan area. You would need to get a dolmus down to the main road and then link up with another.
If you tell us where your accomodation is we can help more.

Click on this link. Its the orange dolmus you will be looking for.

Hope this helps a little.

landlady23,

Your other option is a water taxi for a relaxing and sceneic ride across the bay.
