I have been fortunate enough to of been able to go to Tenerife and Los Christianos 17 times now and as such i have experienced the best and the worst of the area.

Please dont let the time-share touts get you down my normal trick to get rid of them is :- As soon as you see them coming towards you tell them you already own a Private Apartment and 9/10 they will leave you alone. Drop a name in like Paloma Beach (Where alot of brits own outright) or somewhere similiar (I'am sure others could advise)

Dont tell them you have a timeshare as they will want you to buy another let them think you have enough money to buy outright and then why would you ever want a timeshare. I once had a really persistent guy who kept on asking me even though I told him we owned and in the end I turned Salesman and tried to sell an apartment to him, he soon vanished.
Also if you keep this story up they soon get to know you and even if we haven't been for a few months many of them still remember me now and dont approach or just say hello.

As for Chicago's yes myself and Wife have had many good nights around that area infact once we meet a lovely couple from Essex but they got so drunk trying to keep up with us brummies that the woman didn't leave the apartment for the next 3 days she felt so il. We felt really guilty........
I have never seen any Kids entertainment on but as you say you can sit right by the playground and keep an eye on the kids from the bar mere feet away.
