We too have booked for Santorini next year.Have looked on the website and it looks lovely.Am a little apprehensive as we have gone to Cyprus for the past 8 years but we're ready for a change. We have been to Greece though so it's not alien to us.

Hi Kleftiko,

Which resort are you going to and when are you flying. We go to Kamari in August and are really looking forward.

Hi Shirley,we are going to Perissa 24th August. When do you go?

Lea28-you said the weather was breezy for your 2nd week. Was this a problem as we've booked for Aug 24th - Sept 7th next year, the weeks you went this year. It's not cardi weather though is it :?

Hi Kleftiko,

The weather was fab for both weeks, but at night time in the 2nd week it was breezy. It definately wasn't worth me straightening my hair before I went out! Take a cardi just incase for the evenings, I only wore mine on the last night as we went on the sunset cruise.

I wish I was going back next year, we are instead going to Cyprus! Trying to persuade my boyfriend to have a week there in June still. I loved it! :D

:D We had a few nights like that in Cyprus-bedhead look! It was still good though. We are really looking forward to it.Where did you stay and where are you staying in Cyprus?

I stayed at the Kafouros Studios in Kamari. We didn't visit Perissa, but you can get water taxis between Kamari to Perissa throughout the day.
I am going to Cyprus 1st October '06 for two weeks, we are staying at the Anastasia Beach Hotel in Pernera. I have been before, but I was 11 years old! :D

Well it's still very nice,we stayed next door and have just come back.We love Cyprus and feel very loyal to it as we were married there 3 years ago and have some good friends but we are ready for a change.Do the water taxis operate at night time too for us to visit Kamari? We have opted for Perissa as the quieter resort(?) so that we have a choice but it looks beautiful and Im sure each resort has it's plus points.

The water taxis only run until approx 4.30 in the afternoon. I am not sure of the best way to get from Kamari at night to Perissa, but it may be that you get a bus to Fira then from Fira to Perissa.
Kamari was classed as being quite lively but we found it to be fairly quiet when we was there (Aug 23rd - 6th Sept). It is mainly restaurants and a few bars. I would recommend if you go to Fira, visiting one of the cake shops. The cakes are delicious but because of the variety hard to choose which ones you want! :D

We stayed at the villa roula through kosamr in Perissa, the bar and evening life were great we hired a car for a coule of days got a great deal on little Jeep thing did the whole island in one day and the sunset at Oia , did one island coach trip which we booked in the resort, no offence to the reps who were great on the island but hey 10 euros is better in my pocket than theirs.
ate at lots of good places but did find a soft spot for the Kalimera tavern tomato balls, chicken slovaki and lots of santorini wine, finicas bar was ok as was the laterna. on a slightly different food item we had during the visit to Oia were you go for the sunset, waiting in the bus station taxi rank car park donkey park all things in one place we had a take away giro for about 1 euro it tasted devine jsut meat salad and bread very simple but hit the spot whilst waiting for the sunset. then shot back to perissa for dinner by the sea shore.

a great holiday and a great relief not to be hounded by timeshare and other annoyances, that you so often get in other resorts.

Thanks Foxprom, that's another good review which puts my mind at rest. Not going for another 11 months but because it's somewhere we've not been Im really looking forward to it.Did you find it expensive? Ive heard people say that it is but we think after visiting Cyprus so long we don't think we'll find it too bad.

Hi Kleftiko,

WE'RE also going to Santorini next August. Really looking forward as I love Greece, although we've never been to Santorini before. I'll be keeping up to date on this site for the next few months or so, trying to find out as much as I can about the place. What date are you flying?

Hi Shirley,we fly out on the 24/8 from Manchester. What about you?

We fly from Cardiff, but will already be home by the time you go. We're holidaying from 3rd - 17th August. I'll post full review as soon as we get back.

Hi Kleftiko, regarding the cost of living on Santorini, we to were told about the expense, and didnt notice it, sea view front line bars and restaurants are dearer thatn 1st row or back streetones, as with anywhere. Look around for a bargain and its ok. We shopped for breakfast lots of nice bakery shops for bread and giant dough nuts, (bit chewy) for breakfaast, picked some local meat and cheese for a light lunch on the beach or by rthe pool, then dinner in the town spent about 30 euros on dinner for three with wine and drinks, some nights a bit more some nights a bit less day time food bread and cheese a few euros per day, souvineers are mixed value soem good some bad. the main towns like the capital Thira and the sunset town Oia where lots of the cruise ship passengers go are full of gold and jewlery shops, whcih yo will need your visa card for and beware of the cafes and bars in these towns 8 euros for club sandwich and 2 euros for a coffee is a bit ott. but the american tourists on the cruise ships thought it was wonnnnerrrfulllll.

good value holiday, fantstic scenery, try and get to the old port donw the long and twisty road and look back up the cliffs at the view and years of layers of rock that have been deposited on it.

Thanks for your tips.Gosh,Im so excited when I get told nice things about it.Don't know how Im going to last until next August!! :)

Me too,

Will just have to keep dreaming until then. Don't know whether it's my age, but the time goes so fast these days, August will be here before we turn around. Mind you I've got another Greek holiday to look forward to before then, Yipee! Corfu here we come. We only normaly do 1 holiday a year, but next year will be an exeption, being our Silver Wedding in May ( God I'm getting old) but I only feel in my 20's.
