Know someone who stayed there so this is second hand knowledge. He went there as it was the only accom available to him as he was transferred from Phuket to Samui as it was four days after the tsunami when he travelled.

He said the place was nice but his biggest complaint was the remoteness of the hotel ..and that there were few local restaurants or bars nearby. Chaweng as you say is pretty busy. Bophut and Choeng Mon are quieter but still with enough going on. Choeng Mon is only ten minutes drive from Chaweng so your near enough for a livlier night out should you want one.

I stayed there last year, and I didnt find it remote, it's only 20 mins to chaweng or 10-15 mins from Lamai in a taxi , £10 or less. Great beach and the hotel next door, Laem Set has an excellent restaurant.

thanks for your replies, still not sure but i have plenty of time to decide!

Just got back from there today and I could not fault the hotel in any way but yes I did find it very remote.
As we were in Samui on our 4ht visit this did not matter as we were not bothered too much about having things on the doorstep.
There was a tours desk in the hotel and also a complimentary bus to Chaweng each evening at 19.00 and 21.00 - we used this service everynight and paid for our own taxi back so not too bad, any questions please ask, from shirleyV
P.S the hotel bus also runs to Lamai at the same times.

looking for your report! :D

just wanted to ask- Shirley, did you find the taxis as expensive as Martin? I didn't think it was as far out as Bophut is from Chaweng and we paid nothing like that!

We paid 200 baht from Lamai to Chaweng and 500 baht from Hua Thanon to Chaweng, we paid 600 baht from Hua Thanon to the airport.

and there are about 70bahts to the £. The hotel is obviously a lot further away than I had thought!

now did you look on the reviews page before you asked Shirley??

shirley, just read your review for the samui village, it sounds lovely, think we will stick with it now, dont mind being away from the centre of the action as long as we can get to it easily if we want to!

Like you we like to go out to eat in the evenings so it is reassuring to know that you had no problems doing so as i have read some reviews saying the the hotel shuttle can be booked up two days in advance!
the hotel seems to be close to lamai, what did you think of lamai also any restruarants you would recommend?

thanks for your review

Hi Fiona sorry , no I did not check the review page before I asked ooops!

Suemat I am glad you enjoyed my report, when we checked into the CSV we were told it was best to book the hotel bus a few days before we needed it but we always booked it the day before and never had a problem at all.

Lamai is much nearer than Chaweng so we had 4 nights there, really enjoyed the restaurants - the ones we visited are- Bauhaus - very popular sports bar/ restuarant/ club place, always busy - absolutely brilliant menu - lots of thai and western dishes, good steak and seafood , great choice of desserts - we enjoyed it very mch so went twice, prices very cheap also.

Lilly house- a family run type thai place - had georgeous chilli prawns in batter , excellent thai food , great prices.

The Terrace - also very good menu - higher prices than the last 2 but in all honesty the same standard.

We enjoyed Lamai - although it has quite a sleazy reputation there were lots of families there and some great restaurants , would not hesitate to visit again.

Anything else I can help with just ask, shirleyV
