I seem to recall reading the conditions & small print on the Greekstones paperwork (ok, I'm a sad soul! ) & I think they would allow it provided you had written authorisation first. No idea if there was also an extra charge.

yes you need to check with the car rental company that you will be covered insurance wise.

Thanks for replies, we will check it out when we pick up the car. The alternative is to drive to Sami and go over as foot passengers I suppose, but then we won't see as much of the island.

Going back to 1992 we hired a jeep as we were staying in Lixouri a distance away drove to Fiskardo caught the ferry in Fiskardo to Lefkas but did not take the jeep over with us as we were only going for the day to visit friends the jeep was quite safe but I think if necessary we could have taken the jeep with us not too sure.

'kefalonia-rentacar' lets you take the car over to Ithaca or on to the Peloponneese however the car is not covered by the insurance while the car is on the ship.
