It really depends on when you would be coming to Kefalonia. In contrast to Rhodes town and Santorini, Lassi is definetely a more quite resort.

We're thinking early June next year so it's not generally too hot or too crowded! :)

Hi Tinka14. You will love Kefalonia. Best advice I can give, is get a car and have a look around this beautiful island. We have been 3 times, the last time was Spring Bank week this year, we stayed at Skala which we weren't too keen on (thought it was quite British). I think Lassi will be great for you. It has a good selection of bars/tavernas (can't remember what the beach is like  ) and it's close to Argostoli which has a lovely square. Nice in the evening to people watch. Also, Argostoli has a great fish/veg/fruit market during the week - nice to have a nosey round. Gx

Hi again Tink!

We've been to Kefalonia in June. Absolutely beautiful. With Lassi you have the advantage of a resort with access to Argostoli. I wouldn't personally stay in Argostoli, I'd definitely go for Lassi, but then I have a family.

The island itself is laid back and relatively quiet so nowhere is going to have absolutely loads going on.

We stayed at Xi on the Lixouri peninsula. Again, beautiful but remote. It won't fit what you are looking for.

Scala seemed to us to be a long way from other places but its a resort in itself with some great accommodations and lots of places to eat. Its very popular.

My choice would be the north of the island at Fiskardo . May again be too quiet for you but do make sure you hire a car and visit it and the tiny village of Assos. The accommodations up there were pretty much all taken by Tapestry which I read on here has gone under. Who will be letting those now I don't know but hopefully they will become a bit more affordable!

Have been going to Kefalonia since 1989 it's beautiful, it's the most beautiful Island I have visisted and done quite a few, people the most frendlist although I find most Greek people really lovely, Lassi is not quiet it's very built up and is really a tourists resort, near to Agostoli the capital and bus station which allows you to tour the Island very cheaply by public transport, car hire is recomendy and is an Island with plenty to see, we have been very lucky as many years ago a Greek man befriended us and he's taken us all over the Island to places tourist will never see even been on Rabbit Island which was cut off in the 1953 earthquake, I would not say it's quiet maybe a bit more reserved than other places without sounding over the top is the best way I can explain it we stay in Lixouri which a lot of people find dull but it suits us.
Have a good holiday whereever you end up.

Thanks for the tips so far folks....Keswick I think you're haunting me!!!! Only joking!!!....My sister in law and her partner have been to Kefalonia twice and stay in Fiskardo as they do a stay and sail 2 week holiday and it sounds lovely there but I think would be too quiet for us...and as you say there isn't appear to be the accomodation there via the package holiday people although I have done several DIY hols now so I am not averse to doing that but it seems like Lassi is the resort for us and of course we would fully explore the island as we like to do that sort of thing anyway! Kefalonia looked stunning when we flew over the island on our way to Santorini, saw Myrtos beach and thought wow!

Skala is the best resort in my opinion. Better than Lassi which is very touristy and built up. Skala has more of a village feel and yet has a fabulous beach, water sports and plenty of places to eat and drink at night. Wherever you stay you want to hire a car and see all of this amazing island.

Hi Tinka 14,

I stayed in Lassi a few weeks ago and we hired a car and went to Skala the beaches in Lassi are superb, but in Skala they are rubbish big stones on the sea bed i got bit in the sea in Skala.

I liked Scala but I would have felt isolated there (although not quite as much as Xi is!). Lassi gives best of both worlds, especially access to the cheaper options for island travel which, as others say, is a must do.
