We flew with Malaysian overnight into Kuala Lumpur- we got the back seats where they go to twoa which was great so had loads of room. Found the food to be pretty good as well as plenty of drinks and snacks over the flight as well.
Landed in KL and had our pick up sorted so really easy getting into the city- we stayed at the Royale Bintang Hotel. Its quite a big hotel and the rooms have great views of the Menara Tower and the Petronas towers as well. Their breakfasts were fab too, never too busy to get a seat or anything either.
On the Monday we decided we'd do the new things in KL that had appeared since our last trip plus those we had missed. We used the new monorail system as well which was great. We went up to a few of the older districts for a mooch about the Ramadan markets- they had some fab sweeties for breaking fast with (although we had them earlier!). Then we headed back towards the new Aquarium.
Great attraction, very quiet as well- we got to stroke baby sharks as well as turtles and rays, their walk through shark tank is really good too.
Unfortunately by the time we came out of there- the heavens had opened and its was torrential rain, so we waited for the KL Hop on Hop off bus, which we hadn't heard great reports about.
Anyway, it turned up as scheduled and we got off at the Menara Tower. Fantastic views- sadly they were obscured by the clouds which were by this time delivering so much water it was hard to walk down the polished steps of the tower.
The bus came on time again so we travelled round a bit further and saw a new persepctive to KL from the top deck. We hopped off a few more times until we got back towards Bukit Bintang, by which point the torrent had stopped and wandered back to the hotel for a rest before heading for Petaling Street for dinner.
The satay there is still the best we have ever tasted even with the new developments like the roof (!!!). We had some great buskers while we ate and then wandered back after a few too many beers!
Many thanks for the trip report. It's much appreciated.
Dinner was taken in Jalan Alor- fantastic restaurants- great choice and atmosphere as well.
Wednesday we flew off to Bali- our first visit.
We had a delay on the way out so got there after dark so didn't see very much of anything- dropped the bags at the hotel and wandered down to the sea to have dinner then retire for a rest.
Our hotel- Sri Phala- was lovely- built in Balinese style, huge rooms, fab bathrooms with open windows (protected by mesh) and done in beautiful dark wood. The Other half was impressed as Dunkin Donuts were round the corner so he could get a large milky coffee whenever he wanted. It is about a 5 minute walk from the beach and the Perama bus stop ( which was hady for trips to Ubud). To walk into the main bit of Sanur would take 20 min s or so but a taxi was only 6000 rp so not too much of a hassle at all.
So we went white water rafting- fantastic
Did a 15km downhill bikeride through the rice terraces and small villages then finished up with a cooking lesson- amazing experience and highly recommended
Spent the day exploring the craft villages
Bali Bird Park and Reptile park- fabulous hands on experiences at both places- highlight for the other half was holding a 5 foot monitor lizard mine was have 6 kites taking food offf the tray on my head
We went to Kuta for the day as well
Then to the water park and up to Uluwatu and Jimbaran for dinner on the beach- amazing sunset!
Up to Ubud on the Perama bus for the day- very reliable and impossibly cheap as well, great babi Guling in Ubud
All in all we did quite a lot and everywhere found we were oonly two of very few people which was a real shame
We loved Bali very much and have been singing its praises to everyone
oh sounds lovely - thanks for sharing
Also good to hear the hop on/off bus in KL was a more positive experience one than we had. I was sure it would be good once they ironed out the problems(ie having enough buses on the route to run more often than once every hour or so )
