We stayed at the Krabi Sands Resort in 2008. The area in my opinion is very quiet and there is no beach as such, a few restaurants within walking distance, if you are looking for a beach holiday I would stay nearer to Ao Nang. That said I would stay in this area again as we do prefer somewhere quiet.

thanks
I did see the beach wasn't great but with the size of pool of the Sofitel has I don't think we would miss it.( supposedly the biggest pool in Asia)
However, we are now swaying towards leaving it till we have a longer holiday and going elsewhere. Still interested in any other feedback though.

Can't speak for the hotel, but I remember Klong Muang beach being quite small and disappearing at high tide (is it near the Nakamanda?).

Can't ever see myself seeing beyond the Tubkaak in Krabi. Which reminds me, I must be overdue a visit..

I did read there were a few restaurants nearby and they run a shuttle in the evening to A Nang.

We've stayed at the Krabi Sands a couple of times which is about three minutes walk from the Sofitel - actually got photos of it being built. The beach won't be that great in front of the Sofitel, and it is across a road. A great advantage though is its closeness to the islands for beaching. About ten to fifteen minutes on a long tail to Koh Hong which is stunning with good snorkelling and coral reef, and other islands a few minutes futher. A handful of pretty good local restaurants within ten minutes walk. Tubkaak beach is a short drive away though I'm not sure of ease access since they've built the Amari - we used to cut through the Tubkaak hotel.

Klong Muang beach is a ten minute walk away - an OK beach which has the Nakamanda and Sheraton on it. The best beaches though are on the islands. Beaches on Ao Nang aren't great people use it as a staging post to such beaches as Railey, a five minute long tail ride from the resort of Ao Nang.

I have no idea how I missed your reply sunbear- haven't been on here properly for a while but thought I had checked threads here.
Thanks for the info- I think I might actually look elsewhere when we do actually holiday in Thailand next
