My In-laws stayed in the Koala Apartments last October and they had a great time there. I live over here anyway, so I also got to see what the apartments where like. The room were very spacious, lovely size bedroom and very clean. The apartments themselves are set in 3 sites each one with its own pool, up to you as to wish one you want to use. There is a pool bar/restaurant and when they were there did have some entertainment in the evening - although the only one I saw was for the children. You are very close to Holiday World which is like a little fair with some good rides, bars, restaurants and bowling alley and you are also close to where they have a weekly market, ask your rep for dates. As far as location it is in a fairly quiet area, but you are only a short walk away from Faro II comercial center where you will find shops, bars and restaurants or for something a bit more lively head to Playa del Ingles either a 15 minute walk or jump in a taxi, they are very cheap.
Hope this helps

just booked to go to the koala gardens in maspalomas for 2 weeks as anyone stayed here?any reviews welcome
hi,myself and family are going to gran canaria in september,we are staying at the koala gardens.the reason im posting is,i have read some horror stories online the past few days about the koala gardens.some of the stuff i have read has concerned me greatly.dont get me wrong,i have also read some good reports about the place, but the bad stuff has overshadowed it big time.could anyone on here who have stayed here please let me know what its like?any help would be appreciated before i take issue with the travel agents.many thanks
I thought the place was kept very clean, and it was quiet when we were there.
I thought the Apartments were small, the kitchen is behind cupboard doors. i stayed in an upstairs apartment and did not see one cockroach, however the downstairs residents were plagued by them.
It was €16 for the safe deposit box and no refund is given at end of stay.
A lot of Germans stayed there and they where placed around the main pools of the complex. They were all inclusive so they ate and drank there.
The place has a lot of cats hanging around, I ended up buying cat food and feeding them, bad move as they constantly sat outside the apartment, up to 8 at one time.
There is a Gym and Sauna, looked at them, the Gym equipment came from the 'Arc' and the sauna was never on.
Didnt stay in complex at night. The whole complex is surrounded by iron railings, impossible to breach and gates are situated around the complex which can be opened by the apartment key.
Go to the Supermarkets and restaurants in the other complexs beside the Koala, as they have more produce and better quality of food on offer.
I would defo recommend these apartments, really enjoyed the peace and quiet during the day at the pool and we headed out to PDI every night.
As the previous post states, they are close to Holiday World, Faro2 and the local market (Wednesday & Saturday). A taxi to PDI cost €2 and could be booked from reception.
Andrew021 would you add your review to the link above please.
The complex is a one up, one down, we were on the bottom, and never came accross any cockroaches, the pool is cleaned daily, as were the rooms, all the rooms in our complex had a pool view (Would say they were about 30-40 apartments per complex), so no fighting for sunbeds, they were plenty to go around. The rooms were of a good size, and remember when we booked we was not charged any under occupancy, which is very rare! There were 3 of us 2ad,1ch. (This may have changed though!)
There's a market too, (Wed Sun), as you come out of the koala, (And walk on towards the main road,) turn left, and it's straight up the road.
Can reccomend the aqa park in maspalomas ( 10-15 min walk), very quiet, and not as expensive as the main water park, my lad loved it there.
Taxis were cheap, about 3 euros to PDI, where we went every night. Can recommend the yellow rose (Translated armidillo ...?), the best restaurant we have ever been in,(Whilst abroad), kids eat half price, but be sure to mention it's for the kids (Or they wont deduct) ie: "A childrens spag bol please". The steaks/pizzas are out of this world. This restaurant is situated at the front of the enterance into Gran Chaperal commercial. Centre.
I would definately go back to these apartments, (And would have done), but other half wanted to try tenerife this year. Any further questions, just ask. Regards, BBB
hi thanks for the reviews, just another question how far is the beach from the koala`s?is there good transport if its a good distance away?many thanks.
has anyone stayed here this year if so can you please tell me wot you thought of it as i keep reading bad reviews.
anybody got any updates on these suites?only about 6 or 7 weeks till i go.i havent read any recent reviews and im still a bit wary about these suites.many thanks
Has anyone been to the Koala Garden Suites recently? I am heading there in July. Just wondered if anyone had any more to say about them. There seems to be a mix of reviews!!
Thanks
After reading reviews about koala gardens on here i was expecting the worst, however thankfully i was pleasantly surprised.
I travelled with my girlfriend her mother and my girlfriends brother.after enduring a terrible bus journey(no a/c on bus)in 40 degrees heat,we finally arrived at koala.we had booked 2 x 2 studio,a studio for my girlfriend and i and one for her mum and bro.at reception we were allocated a balcony in zone 3(which we swiftly took)the mum and brother were below us.safety deposit box 28 euro(non refundable)for our 2 week stay.when i 1st entered my apartment i wasnt too impressed the place was basic to say the least!however i put this out of my mind for the meantime just to get out and cool down at the pool.this where koala excels itself.
the pool in zone 3 was absolutely brilliant,no problems getting a sunbed and it was nice and quiet, ideal for those who want a nice quiet relaxing holiday.there was also a lot of little stray kittens roaming about they were lovely but if you feed them be prepared for them to hang about you for your stay.nearby the Faro 2 is 5-10 min walk away and is superb for eating out.holiday world is a ferw mins away and excellent for kids.we only ate at the koala twice and i wouldnt recommend going all inclusive.(thank god we were self catering)staff at reception we were very helpful and responded to any problems we had.koala also runs a free bus to the beach several times a day.
Now to the part you have all been waiting for "cockroaches"or the "cukarcha"(excuse the spelling)we only seen 2 in our apartment and that was the 1st night.we sprayed the room every night before we went out with roach spray.as we had no problems with cockroaches upstairs, the same cant be said for downstairs, they got quite a lot coming into their apartment.(always request a balcony)
taxis were cheap as chips to get you to nearby PDI and down to the beach.we ate out nearly every night at the Faro 2 may i recommend broncemar II,Piz Paz and the wee Hawai pub for cocktails.DO NOT eat at the Chino royale at the Faro 2!i had a cockroach crawl into my food!
Back to the koala gardens and i have to say if this place got a makeover it would be truly a wonderful place to stay.it has 5 zones which were cleaned every other day.like i said before the place is as basic as it gets and the decor is awful.but thats the only fault i can find in this place.i would certainly go back to koala, but i just hope it gets the makeover it deserves as it has the potential to be top quality apartments.on a final note the MYTRAVEL rep in this place was a total waste of space!no help whatsoever and gave us wrong information especially about hand luggage coming home!
