If like us you are offered a free tour of Bodrum as part of your ticket on market day from Kos,a word of warning.Sounds good, started well, our guides sorted us into nationalities, giving us a brief historyof the fortress and Bodrum itself.
We were driven, in mini buses up to a high point dominated by old windmills overlooking Bodrum and Gumbet for a photo shoot. Then we were told we shall be visiting a gold workshop, where on arrival we were given security passes, and each person/couple were asigned their own personal salesperson and were subjected to a hard sell.
By the time we had dragged ourselfs away and boarded the bus 2 hours plus had passed, people were getting hungry and thirsty, and our stay in Bodrum was for only 6 hours
Our guide then announced we shall be visiting a leather factory, then a photo shoot of the amphitheatre, then a carpet factory. At this everyone started to complain.Reluctantly the tour was cut short. The minibus left minus 4 passengers who, still being given the hard sell, would follow later in taxis.
So be warned it may sound free but as they say nothing is free.We did buy some jewelry, which was our intention anyway, but not in the way we were subjected too.
thanks pipefitter, thats one tour we will avoid when we visit! xx
Can't say I've ever heard of a hard sell treatment on any of these trips before, so it would be interesting to know which company were doing the "hard sell". Been to Kos a few times but never done the Turkey trip, but was sort of planning to do it this time out.
Cheers Andy.
