Hi Midori,

As luck would have it, we have just come back from Kuramathi this week having stayed 2 weeks at Blue Lagoon.

We walked round the island and although both Village and Cottage are nice, they are not a patch on Blue Lagoon. We were told the two older resorts were built in the 70's and Lagoon is about 10 years old. All three are owned by the same company and you can use the facilities in the other resorts should you wish.

The Basic rooms in Village did look exactly that - you could see the difference between them and the 'superior' class rooms. In Lagoon they all looked to be one class, be it Beach Bungalow or Water Bungalow and were all far higher quality than the 'superior' class in Village.

We booked half board, it's possible to upgrade to AI when you get there for US$60 / person / day. Neither of us are big drinkers so in our case it was not worth it by a long way - for 2 weeks it would have worked out at £1200 odd for us both whereas in reality we only spent £440 on the island which included buying one meal a day.

Drinks are not that expensive all things considered. Cocktails were about $7, Coke was about $2.30, Beer about the same. All spirits were brand name, the only beer available was Carlsberg on draught, no bottled beers at all.

One thing I would recommend is not to do the speedboat transfer, it's nearly 2 hours and if it's choppy (which it was for us) you'll be sick. The Seaplane is 15 minutes and quite an experience - we left the island this way as there was no way I was getting back on the boat!

I hope this is of use, if you want to know anything else, feel free to ask.

Cheers

Phil.

Thank you!

We have decided to book to the village, and maybe upgrade to a better room in resort. It is £500 cheaper, and we had intended to go in October, but have had to bring our holiday forward, so money is an issue!

At the moment we will be taking the speedboat transfer. I have never been sea sick before, but completely understand what you say about if it's choppy!

What was the weather like while you were there? We are only going for one week, and whilst I am sure we will be able to amuse ourselvres if it raisn, obviously we're hoping for dry weather!

Was there much of a dress code? I gather it's pretty informal, smart causal? Or just casual?! And what about shoes, is it worth taking any other than flip flops?

Thanks!

hi midori, its phils other half here!

the weather was fantastic while we were there, we were concerned aswell as its going into rainy season now, but we needn't have. it did rain but only for a little while 20 mins at most then it was bright sunshine again and it was about 90-95f and quite humid- midday is very hot.

as to dress code, it is very relaxed, shorts, t-shirts are fine and summer dresses for ladies, i wore flip-flops everyday and night and so did phil.
make sure you go snorkelling or scuba as you'll miss out on something really special if you don't- the turtles are down at the village end of the island. also go up to the blue lagoon's bar at 6.30 for the sting ray feeding- they're huge!

you'll feel tired after all the travelling but you're in the pefect place to relax and chillout.
you're going to have a really fab time.
let us know what you think

Thank you once again!

We will definately be snorkelling, and probably diving, that was one of the main reasons for chosing kuramathi over other islands, as the house reef is meant to be very good.

We have booked and are going on 25th, so less than a week to go now!!! can't wait, and I'll let you know how we get on!
