Lol - no we definitely hit a toll road a few trips ago, we were discussing it when I'd read the paper. Think we'd taken a wrong turn and ended up on it?? Trying to think now where we were going :think Will ask Peter when he's home tomorrow night & post where it was :tup

The car that I booked for 2 weeks in Aug cost €290 in May. Same car, same company now €360

Glynis, you must have gone on the motorway to Lisbon that is a toll road :think

Yes there are no tolls on the A22 - yet.

The debate is certainly raging. The plan is to introduce what amounts to electronic road charging. This is seen to mean that sensors will be installed on motorways and all cars (eventually) will be fitted with a 'chip' which the sensor will read as you enter and exit the motorway. Then you cough up the money some way or other. That will please the car hire companies no end, as they will have to pay and somehow recoup the cash from their clients.

It saves building expensive and land hungry toll plazas, but the Albufeira think tank believes that ALL vehicles will have to be kitted out, at the owners expense of course this being Portugal, even those who have no intention of using A22 or any other road that might be so treated. Opposition will be strong. And suppose you drive in from Spain in a Spanish, French, German or British car? Then what?

Even if that stage is passed, all it will mean is that the N125, being free, will revert to being the major east-west highway and the A22 will be deserted.

I am sure this topic will be on the boil for years to come!

A trip to Burgau is also a nice day out. A really lovely little village on the road past Luz.
Sit and have a drink in the cracking beach bar, and you can watch the kids playing on the beach.
If you get the chance, have a drink in the Pig's head, just outside Burgau. The landlord is a big tattooed 'Northerner'
who goes by the name of "Rotten" He's an absolute scream!! :rofl

Ah that could have been it ie wandered off to Lisbon then thought oops wrong road :rofl

Agree Burgau is nice althought the road down to the beach is steep :yikes Next to Burgau is Salema - where we've stayed twice that got a gorgeous beach also :sun2

Had a great time but never really moved out of Lagos, it was just too hot to be travelling around with the 3 young kids in 35+ degree heat. We managed the boat trip to the grotto,s :) and apart from that it was staying close to either the refeshing pool or the sea off the superb beaches.
One pleasant suprise was how cheap the food seemed in comparison to spain :tup

Great place, love to go back when its a tad cooler and a tad less busy. Those narrow streets were solid with tourists at night, queuing up by 730pm at many of the eateries.

June's a nice time to visit as is September but I suppose you may have to rely on school holidays.

Was the sea warm?

PS Many thanks for your review :tup

The sea was lovely, I was in it snorkelling most days looking at the hordes of fish. The kids were in it almost permannetly when they were not hunting crabs on the rocks.

Ive added a detailed review of the Iberlagos apts as the last one was over 5 years ago. Ive cocked up the sun ratings, the location should have been 4 suns not one. Can mods amend??
For the next few years we are stuck with school holidays, it was very busy but still a lovely place to visit.
