I am off to Lake Maggiore in September with Thomsons. any one got any suggestions on what to expect and what thomson and staff are like?
Also what excursions are recommended?
Lake Maggiore is very beautiful. My second favourite after Lake Garda.I haven't been with Thomson to Maggiore, went with First Choice but i don't think you will have any problem. They have been doing lakes and mountains for donkeys years unlike FC who for some reason have stopped going there.
The main town on the lake is Stresa, where all the action is.Promenade lined with hotels and 3 little islands on the lake all well worth a visit.
also Milan is a must do.Drivers absolutely mad but if you are sat on a coach you can laugh and slam your foot on an imaginary brake.See the Duomo which I think is the best in Italy, better than Florence in my opinion.La Scala which is nothing from the outside but awesome inside.
Another excellent trip was up to Zermatt in Switzerland.Went up the Matterhorn.Whew amazing but not for asthmatics cos of rarified air.
There is no shortage of things to do but if you are looking for nightlife you won't find it here.
Have a great time.
