my family and i including 2 children under 2 years recently went to lanzarote bay hotel we were told by the travel agent going places in bury that the hotel had just been refurbished. this was one of the changes made to our original booking and they asked if it would be acceptable. we had a few queries which we asked to have confirmed such for instance was the hotel fully operational and that all building work was completed. we informed travel agent to contact us by mobile due to being out of country to my dismiss and total shcok on returning home i found a confirmation saying that the travel agent had booked the holiday without our authority. i will stress the staff at the hotel were exceptional and nothing was too much for them. however work was still being carried out and the hotel was not fully operational at all. the hotel informed me that the tour operators had been aware of this and that the tour operators were being discounted due to this. i was informed there was a dress code in the restraunt and was informed this meant that bathing trunks and shorts not acceptable but 3/4 length trousers were fine. one entering the restraunt i was refused entry and had to go and buy long trousers in town. the travel agent basically just said anything to sell the holiday and thomas cook on complaining to them sent a letter that was patronising and insulting which also infered that i was a liar. i sent pictures of maintenance work and building work being done they say that should not effect the holiday. if you are booking with thomas cook or going places in bury i will advise that you get them to put everything in writing and signed due to the fact they deny everything. the changes made to the original holiday are as follows hotel changed the airline changed the terminal changed, i picked up the tickets and next day got a call saying the tickets picked up were no longer usuable i wuld have to go back and pick up another set i dont think that either going places or thomas cook have the first clue
