We were in Paphos in December and it was warm enough to sit by the pool, although not hot. However the rest of the island had lower temperatures.

BUT
What you find is that the Eastern part of Southern Cyprus shuts down towards the end of September /beginning of October for tourism when we were there in July we heard lots of grumbles from the people who worked there about the Travel companies stopping bringing tourists in but the biggest grumble was that Larnaca airport basically shuts and all commercial flights either suspend or move to Paphos Airport for the winter
So you can get a winter holiday in Cyprus but choice is limited to the Paphos end of the island, whilst the Protaras region is reduced to Ghost town status
I would like to visit at that time myself but unfortunately both my and my wifes workplaces don't allow Christmas time Vacations but I would like to see Paphos and Nicosia at that time of the year
They've had fabulous weather almost every day and last year it was glorious with temperatures between 24c to 26c and not a drop of rain. The year before, it rained just as we were about to exit the highway at Paphos airport.
We're in Limassol and to be honest, we always find that it's more cloudy and breezier in Paphos. Any bad weather we get always comes from the Western end of the island and we often watch the storms building from that direction in the winter.
You can sunbathe from breakfast time until between 2pm - 3pm and then after that (Nov / Dec), the sun starts to go down and it definitely feels cooler. You will need at the very least a fleece or jumper and possibly a jacket for the evenings if you want to get out and about of the hotel.
We have a friend who comes every Christmas too and has had some fairly decent weather. It usually lasts out till around the end of the first week in January and then starts to change. In fact, you will find the Cypriots will all be out cooking their souvla on the BBQ's on Christmas Day!
This link to my Blog page gives a wide spread of some weather from October to November 2009. We had bad weather in October and there was a tornado swept across the highway just outside of Nicosia the month before.

I know what you mean, several years ago we were in Pafos in early January, we hay made payment for a trip up the trudos, when at 3 am a not was stuck through our door just saying sorry trip canceled 5ft of snow fallen on mountains, when i got up I went for my usual early morning walk and, was standing on Pafos harbor front [in shorts and tee shirt] with snow falling on me, after breakfast the snow showers gave way to torrents of rain,so i haired a car and we drove over to Lanaca bay via Lemesos when we crossed the hills to the west of Lemesos the weather completely changed and we had a cracking day in warm sunshine, [we had great pleasure winding up the moaners in the hotel]

Not if you want to fly from the UK you don't.
Gatwick, the closest UK airport with flights to Cyprus, has a flying time of 4.5 hours.

Yes, that's true - and going back, they always allow 5hrs.
It must be uphill all the way
