I think your mate is correct, read the small print in your insurance documnets that will tell you. Generally insurance companies wont pay out unless the foreign office declare the area as unsafe to travel to. Which at this stage I would think is extremely unlikely.

If you cancel it will be deemed that you have 'changed your mind' and you will lose your deposit. The alternative is to ask your travel company to transfer the deposit to another holiday at another destination. They will normally do this for a a set charge per person.

Surely if the risk becomes too great the Foreign Office will not allow anyone to travel.

I agree, unless the FO states that they recommend no travel I do not believe insurance will pay out, the TO hopefully will let you transfer your holiday but there may be a cost.

I haven't see anything about bombings in Bodrum, do you have the link? I know in October there was a bomb in Diyarbakir and again last Thursday but this place is miles away from tourist areas.

Obviously it is up to each individual to make the decision that is best for them and to decide whether to travel or not, I personally will be still going, this is what the PKK want, to cause disruption to the tourist industry, Following bird flu and the bombings in Marmaris 2006 Turkey has suffered from fewer tourists.

If you really think about it you have more chance of being blown up here by an extremest, and if that doesn't happen you are more likely to be mugged/assaulted while walking from the pub than you are in Turkey, I feel far safer in Turkey than here and look forward to my hols in August.

This is quite a good link to keep abreast of the situation in Turkey , dont see any mention of bomb in bodrum ,i think bombing in bodrum out of season would be a waste of time on the part of the terrorists. Unless the F.O advise U.K travellers to stay away ,then you cannot cancel and get your money back ,you can however change your holiday up to a specified time ,at an extra cost.

This was always going to be the danger if turkish troops went after the P.P.K and i am afraid it will get a lot worse .

Groovybaby, In 2006 a bomb went off in Kusadasi, we still went in the September, no problem whatsoever. In fact we met people at the airport going out who had changed their holiday because of the bombings and were already regretting their decision. Add to this that Kalkan is not the sort of resort to attract bombers, Fethiye, maybe. Don't worry, stick with your plans and you will have a fantastic holiday. We've just Booked up for Altinkum and hopefully we will also be going to Hisaronu later on in the year, so don't be put off. If it helps, just keep checking on this Forum daily or even pm Chelsea Boy and Bryn to keep you up to date on what is happening out there.

hi all lets not worry to much about the bombs these happen nearly every year has never stopped me going i was there a few year ago when bombs where going off and the turkish police were really hot on security we had a fab time . bombs didn't stop millions of brits pouring into spain when they were getting bombed every two minute by exstremists . and also like people have said if its to bad the gov will pull the plug i have a friend over there he is turkish and he said its no more in danger than london is so chin up roll on august marmaris here i come ps any one going early save some efes for me enjoy
