Very wise choice we stayed at these apartments last year they are very very good we loved them; the owners live on site and are very friendly.
Georgioupolis is also a very nice resort we would not hesitate in going back, and when we do it will be to the same apartments.
Georgioupolis has plenty of really nice restaurants and bars all within minutes of the Leonidas, same with the beach.
You will have a wonderful time shame you have to wait a year
I take it you are going with Kosmar? Again very good we have been with them 3 times so far will be 4th time next month to Zante. (We have had this one booked for a year)
Very easy to get about the bus stop is just up the road and you can travel to Rethymnon well worth a visit in one direction or Chania in the other and plenty in between. Our only regret about the holiday was that we were only there for a week it went far too quick.

It's great to hear from someone who's been and had a good experience! We have indeed booked through Kosmar - mainly because they seem about £200 cheaper on average than the major tour operators. The travel agent recommended them too. I just hope our flight times don't get changed too drastically - from looking on here that seems to be a frequent occurence with them...

I do have a few questions...

How basic is the accommodation? I've read in the back of the Kosmar brochure & they say you have to take toilet roll, bath towels, etc to all self catering accommodation. Is this the case at the Leonidas?

Is it quiet at night? (ie no noisy bars nearby or road)

Is the pool really tiny? Don't mind it being small as long as it's not too full to swim!

Were mosquitos a big problem there? I've read in the Rough Guide that they are due to the nearby marshes & river.

Is it easy to get to Rethymnon & Chania at night - do buses run till late to get back?

Sorry to ask so many questions! I know it's ages off yet, but I get soo excited about holidays! Only just got back from the Dominican Republic 2 weeks ago and utterly fed up to be back - even though the Dominican wasn't that great!

Does it get chilly/windy at night? (will be the first 2 weeks of June). I tend to feel the cold...I even wore a cardigan most nights in the Dominican after 30 degree days!

Yes don't take any notice of the flight times until you get the tickets! Mine has been changed from 8am to 5am but not that bothered to be honest you can pay much more for a holiday with a different company and still have your flight times changed.

Not basic by Greek standards. We didnt take bath towels they were supplied and changed regularly. No need to take your own toilet rolls they will supply them but you will probably have to buy one now and then.

Yes

It's a good size pool and because Leonidas is only small not that many people around to use it.

Marsh is quite near but didnt find the mosquitos to much of a problem make sure you take the usual precautions.

We were there the second week in June last year and it was hot but I would suggest you are prepared for the odd chilly evening, cant remember it being very windy the village was quite well sheltered.

Will try and list them in order but difficult because we love Greece.
1 Crete (Georiopolis)
2 Santorini (Kamari)
3 Kefalonia (Lassi)
4 Zante (this year is our second visit to Zante) this year Alakanas 10 years ago Tsilivi.
5 Corfu (twice) Sidari both times but now a bit to busy for us.
6 Halkadiki (ok but wouldnt go back).

Oh I really fancy Santorini! I was thinking of Kamari or Perissa but I've read on the net that they're very commercialised and a bit scruffy? Don't know how accurate this is. I was thinking of Thira, but there doesn't seem to be as much self catering choice there at a decent price...and of course, no beach...

Santorini is a beautiful island very different. Slightly more expensive than some of the other islands. We didn't find Kamari to commercial but the beach is black and very steep it looked better in Perissa but not sure what the resort is like our friends have stayed there and liked it. The sunset in Oia is fantastic.
Fira the capital is wonderful the view across the caldera is breathtaking. You would need to hire a car to get around the island.

Went to these apartments June 2004, best accommodation I have ever had in Greece!

Leonidas is ideally placed and within easy walking distance of anywhere in the village.

Extremely quiet.

Nights in June are warm but not so warm you cannot sleep, no need for a blanket.

Not a problem with mozzies although Georgioupolis was a mozzie haven 100 years ago.

A wise choice ........................... KOSMAR let themselves down however with their flight operation, you could end up picking up at airports in the UK and stopping off at Santorini, Zante etc. Our flight in total took 7 hours!
