Hi,Im posting this in the hope that someone can help me please.I have never been to Tunisia before but after finding a good price for next year for myself,my husband and little girl we are seriously considering it.I just wondered if someone could give me some information on the hotel(Les orangers beach resort), and Tunisia in general.I have heard reports that you have to stay in your complex at night (not sure if this is true).
If anyone has been to this hotel i would like to know how far away it is to any entertainment or nightlife as we dont want to be too far away, also i need to know if would be any good for my little girl who will be 9 next year,is there a good kids club and things for her to do.(she loves the pool).
I have read some of the reviews and it looks really good,i suppose im being a bit paranoid as we have always stuck to spain and bulgaria before and i don't want to make a mistake.
Any help would really be appreciated.
Thank you for reading.
Regards
Angela.
I dont know anything about the hotel in question but Tunisia itself in my opinion is beautiful !!
We only went out twice in the evenings and did see some dodgy looking people on some streets but I think you get that where ever you go !!
I was also very nervous before going to Tunisia as we have 3 children ourselves and had heard many stories but the people there are really lovely and cant do enough to help !!
Im sure you will have a great time !!
I'm not too familiar with the hotel itself but do know the area quite well. The only thing I can tell you about the hotel is that I have heard some people say the rooms are quite small. But as I guess when on holiday not many people spend too much time in their rooms I wouldn't think this a problem.
As I don't have kids I've never looked into the facilities for them, but can tell you that Tunisians love children so you daughter will most likely find herself the centre of attention! If she likes horses the hotel has a stable (I'm assuming they still have this, as this information is a few years old).
The location is excellent as you have restaurants, cafes and shops a stone's throw from the hotel. There's a lovely restaurant called Cascades just around the corner. It's one of the pricier restaurants by Tunisian standards but still cheap compared to the UK,for what you're getting. (Eg, last time I was there, in July, I paid about £40 for 2 people, including wine for me, beer for my friend and a massive fresh fish as one of the main courses). For a coffee, snack or if you've missed the breakfast at the hotel there's El Dorado which is very popular with both tourists and locals.
A lot of nightlife centres around the hotels and so long as a hotel isn't all inclusive you're free to go to any other hotel. The entertainment is a bit hit and miss, but shows worth watching include the snake charmer and the fakir show. The Fourati 2 minutes down the road to Les Orangers tends to have slightly more polished entertainment compared to some other hotels, however I have had a few problems getting in there as I wasn't staying there. This may be because with a tan I'm often taken as Tunisian though.
There's several disco bars and a couple of clubs within an easy and cheap taxi ride and taxis are pretty easy to get from in front of the hotel. I personally like Havana. Discos in the hotels generally aren't up to much. The one's I've been to seem a bit stuck in the eighties as far as the decor goes!
I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time.

I have just returned from my 1st Holiday in Hammamet Tunisia 8/10/08, it was very relaxing. Everyone speaks very good English and also French the beach was beautiful I stayed at the Bel Azur Hotel in Hammamet. There is no truth that you have to stay in your hotel complex, as my daughter and I would oftern take a stroll in the evening after dinner. But unfortunately there was not a lot of things to do, no nightclubs, only 1 bar (german) but several little supermarket shops selling, carpets, souveniers, ciggies etc., only bad thing was flies, there are loads of them, but you soon get used to it. Food in our hotel was fantastic varied choice so there was something to please even the fussy English. A lot of Russians were staying here.
This year was our fourth time in a row here and we now look upon it as home for 2 weeks each year. we did book for Rhodes this year but cancelled and rebook here. Looking to try another part of Tunisia next year but we might just end up back here.
Angela if you take the plunge I'm sure you will love it and tell Moz at the beach resturant that Keg & Norna (badly spelt back home permanent Arabic tattoos) send their best.
On both holidays we went out of a night without no problems at all.
What I have read, is Tunisia is either a place you love or hate,

Have stayed in Les orangers 5 times before it went all inclusive, loved it, went once when it was AI, didn't like it as much. But, it has been taken over and wow what a great time you will have, it is absolutely georgeous, we phoned them too view for May and I was amazed it is fantastic. The entertainment staff Brian and Freddy were still there so your daughter will have the time of her life, my children are now 12 and 14, they still want to go back there.
