Just got back from Turkey where my mother unfortunately had an accident when she slipped on wet deck of Focus Travel, Olu Deniz boat trip, the result were two fractures to ankle plus a fractured wrist - transferred to Letoon hospital, Fethiye where
they performed "surgery".

Ankle - inserted metalwork into one ankle fracture then set in plaster the
second fracture was "manipulated' into place.

Wrist - set into plaster also.

Upon return to UK and the good old NHS stepped in to pick up the pieces of the Turkish 'botch' job and this week-end corrective surgery was performed to insert a metal plate into wrist that had been set incorrectly.

Surgery was also performed on the ankle fracture requiring the removal the wrongly sized Turkish metalwork which was also placed in the wrong position. A metal plate and connecting pins of the correct size and in the correct position were inserted under the guidance of a competent British orthopedics team. We were informed that the Turkish surgery was as good as just opening the ankle and pushing in a metal screw.

If you are unfortunate to find yourself in the Letoon Hospital at the mercy of the Orthopedics dept., there, beware, dont let them touch you, insist on an air ambulance back to the UK.
