You need to go on an organised safari before you stand any chance of seeing lions or any other animal in the wild. National parks such as Tsavo East and West, Amboseli and the Masai Mara are several hours by road from the coastal resorts.
If you can't find animals in Kenya, you'll not find them anywhere! It's a fair bit of travelling, but well worth the trip. I would say Kenya is more of a wildlife (safari) / relaxation type of holiday than a beach holiday, but you make of it what you want. I posted a few photos on this thread. You can't go wrong for wildlife.

We had a 3day /2night safari at Tsavo east and west plus Tater Hills (@£200)
There we saw lions and a cheetah zebras giraffes wildebeest and loads of elephants, plus some really beautiful birds that would eat from your hand if you tried.
If you dont see animals in Kenya, then you must be staying in the airport

I'll be able to tell you soon we are of to kenya on monday sooooooooo excited i'm about to burst
From Diani the best chance of seeing lions is in Tsavo East, it is more open habitat than the other places - but lions are in most of the parks.
I saw SO many lions whilst on safari in Kenya. I totally loved it. They are amazing animals. I wish I saw some leopards and cheetahs as well, though!
