Electronic gadgets will still have to put through individually and not all together in a separate bag. My solution is a multi-compartment bag (usually a small backpack with zipped pockets that can be accessed from the outside). Most airports have a re-packing counter you can take the tray to put everything back where it came from.

If I am going on a 'cabin baggage' trip only then I will use a smaller backpack that will fit inside the larger cabin bag for going through security but it is still my first choice for stuff I'll be using on the flight. So I'm the saddo with the largest backpack that will be accepted as cabin baggage and that you saw stuffing a smaller, softer backpack into it!

We always pack chargers and leads in our suitcases since we were ordered to do so at the airport a few years ago. Apparently the cable for an electric razor, phono audio leads for connection to a TV are weapons, as is the electric razor, so have to be in your suitcase? :que

Worth having a look at camera bags that have lots of movable departments, just move them until you have a sliding fit and as they are padded every thing is protected against rubbing and scratching. Mine has an A4 pocket that is handy for paper work

we simply put all the chargers, plugs ,adaptors, leads etc in a really strong plastic bag (the one I use came with pair of curtains in it and has press stud fasteners at the top.) and that goes in the case.
The gadgets themselves go in SWMBO 's handbag or my bum bag, in their own cases.
I don't think we have ever had to get them out, except for once with a DVD player.

Same as Del, all of the chargers go in a large heavy duty plastic bag which we always carry in our hand luggage. The lap top and/or tablet always have to be placed seperately in the trays at security but I can't ever remember having to get the chargers /plugs out or the kindle.

Chargers and leads are perfectly ok in hand luggage , in terms of electrical devices , laptops and iPads/tablets and kindles should be placed separately for screening , the official line is any device of A5 size or above , though kindles are not usually asked for to be screened separate . But at Heathrow last week we were asked for kindles .

Chargers and leads are perfectly ok in hand luggage

as mentioned above, electric cables can be classified as weapons, think of a garotte,
We were told by security to pack these in the hold luggage OR risk confiscation,

I take 10 - 20 flights most years and I've never been told that. Lots of my flights are hand luggage only so chargers and leads have to go in hand luggage.

I've never had the security staff pass comment on chargers or other leads in hand luggage either. Nail scissors, yes, I've lost track of how many pairs I've forgotten about and had confiscated but chargers never.

My chargers are always in my hand luggage, usually filling gaps in around the edges, or inside shoes. OH flies on business every week, hand luggage only, so everything in his carry on. Never had a problem with chargers.

I put my iPad in the outside pocket of the hand luggage case. iPod in my hand bag. Hair straighteners, dryer, snd ipad keyboard go in a large gym sack. That way if I end up having to check my hand luggage, the iPad can also go in it, along with my hand bag.

Some good ideas to look at - thank you
We usually pack chargers in a mesh holdall and they go in the hand luggage so I'm ok for that . Our september holiday was the first time we had to get the kindles etc out of the bags so that was what got me thinking if I had one bag I could lift out of the larger one with all that stuff in .
It's mad really all the stuff you end up taking but there you go !!

I put all my adapters and leads in a little canvas bag in my hold luggage as I know I'm not going to need them on my journey.

My tablet goes in my Eastpak tote bag's front pocket and Kindle in the inside zipped pocket. I love this bag as its so strong and doubles as a beach bag/heavy duty shopping bag :tup

I think there are quite a few things that you ARE allowed to carry that could be classified as a "Weapon" I'm sure you can seriously injure someone with a pen for example ( if you poke them in the eye ) but leads and chargers are not on the list of prohibited items determined by the DfT and available on numerous airport and airline websites . Del , ask them where on the list of prohibited items it says leads and exactly what risk you are running ( politely ) !!

If scissors have rounded ends with a blade length of less than 6cm then they are allowed , but most nail scissors do tend to have sharp ( ish ) ends .

With our chargers / leads we seem to have so many even though most of our items are apple , but with camera leads and other stuff we put each charger in a separate plastic zip bag ( like the security ones for liquids ) and write in marker pen on the outside which is which , and then place them in a see through zip up bag like boots / super drug sell for toiletries , it seems to keep everything tidy and untangled and easy to pack .

Blackcat , kindles do tend to be a do they , don't they ? Most security do not request them , as they are easy to " see through " on the x ray , but if in a densely packed bag it might get pulled if they want to investigate , so the argument is if they request before the x ray it might save time later , and as you say it's mad at all the stuff we take !!

You can take any scissors with blades under 6cm they don't have to be round ended.
https://www.gov.uk/hand-luggage-restrictions/personal-items is a good site to refer to.

I think that the last word sums it up!
If told that is what may happen then I don't get into a rights argument , I simply try to avoid the issue next time.

Returning from Goa last year I was stopped because I had some fishermens scales for weighing luggage.
Unknown to me there was a tape measure (steel) built into them. The woman on security, very politely took a pair of scissors and cut the tape out o the scales, giving the reason I mentioned before.

I agree with the link you gave Sunaddict , but it is how the guidelines are interpreted and how the DfT view them when doing their inspections . On the link you gave which the official gov.uk site and displays the DfT guidelines if you click item 1 at the top labelled Overview you will see the all important " disclaimer " if security staff consider items dangerous they will confiscate them even if allowed in hand luggage .

So in the case that Del was quoting leads or cables can be dangerous because you could garrotte someone , I think this is stretching dangerous a bit too much but anything sharp or pointed could easily be considered dangerous . I think that what people's real experiences are that cables / leads are no problem but have had scissors confiscated because they are sharp despite the size . I would think it wise to recommend to people that carrying any sharp item is not a good idea , you might get small nail scissors through sometimes , and other times they will be confiscated , if you do carry them then it is highly likely your bag will be pulled for a closer inspection wasting your time , so I just don't think it's worth carrying those type of items , if its a mistake then ok , mistakes happen .

I actually prefer the clearer interpretation on scissors from Gatwicks security guidelines
