Check out the Plaza Palace Hotel (with studios in annex) in Anaxos, Lesvos - Thomas Cook and Direct Greece in 2007. Lovely hotel, friendly, helpful owners, everything just spot on. You won't find any reviews on this hotel as they had a contract with a Scandanavian company last year.

Hi Janiebaby,
We've been to Pefkos on Rhodes for the last couple of years and loved it.
Haven't been to Santorini so can't compare it but it certainly has all the things you're looking for in a holiday. Stayed at the Lindia Thalassa Apartments (First Choice) which were great.

Hi
I too would recommend Pefkos. We stayed at the Amfitriti Hotel which can be booked through Direct Holidays or Thomson. With Pefkos there are lots of nice sightseeing places such as Lindos which is nearby and Rhodes town. Hope this helps

We have been to Kos twice, Zante twice, Santorini, Paros, Cyprus 23 times, Halkidiki and Athens

After all that our favourite by far was Paros. A *ugger to get to but what a lovely traditional place we stayed in (Pisso Livadi) that still had enough going on to make for a fantastic week. We hired a car which was great during the day (you can do the whole island coast in a day if you are addicted to driving) but every night we would be in one of the 4 or five GOOD restaurants followed up by a fun night in the Anchorage pub.

I would avoid the "capital" Pariki unless you are more into bars and something a little more manic.

Avoid (or don't!) late June/July because the Windsurfing championships take place in Paros and all of a sudden you are surrounded by windsurfers and serious party animals! When that is on then the party place is Punda Beach - mad stuff but how nice to get a contrast from sleepy greek village life to serious clubbing in the sun!

Click on this link for a few pics of Paros...

If you are more into Santorini then I have some more pics here...

Wherever you go you can't go far wrong in Greece! (well maybe you might want to avoid Athens! - personal view)

Hi Janiebaby,
We have done Cyprus, Corfu, Crete, Rhodes, Santorini and Zante(Zakynthos) and of these, although we enjoyed all, I would recommend Grapevines Apartments at Alikanas through Sunstart Holidays(subsidiary of Airtours). Go to Hotel Reviews, click on Zante then scroll down to Grapevines.

From Zante we went on excursions to Athens, Olympia and Kefalonia using local tour operators Dionisos/Tez. I will pm a Zante website for you to gain more info.

Samos is lovely, the harbour at Pythagorian has lots of bars and restaurants to sit in and watch the world go by.
Plenty of sightseeing to do as well.

i have been to all of the ionian islands and several others. lefkas i think is a good and interesting choice. it is easy to get to, the interior is still untouched by tourism, the food is consistantly good (local lamb ius to die for and local wines to rival french and italian.)

lefkas has some of europe's most amazing beaches on its west coast - egremni and porto katsiki are just stunning, with bright turquoise water and backed by huge limestone cliffs.

lefkas town is very stylish and a great place to spend the evening. lots of places to visit and the captain aristethes boat goes daily to the nearby islands of ithaca, kefalonia and there are boats to meganisi as well.

also it is a very friendly island. a slightly more unusual choice but well worth having a look. lots of nices places to stay, agios nikitas and vassiliki are nice but there are numerous other choices on the east coast as well.

Skiathos would be my choice. check out my photos http://www.clearspray.co.uk ... didnt really enjoy Pefkos, too commercialised - full of Brits! Not very Greek ! Kefalonia is a beautiful island too. Maybe the resort of Agia Efimia or Assos. I also agree with someone that Pythagorion on Samos is pretty - like a smaller version of Skiathos Town. Still cant beat Skiathos though for my no. 1 island !

I have been to Athens a few times to stay with my friends family there. Their home is in Iraklio which is about 5 stops on the Attika metro from the heart of Athens. It's a fantastic place to stay, the bakeries open around 6am and serve piping hot feta cheese pies and the delicious honey baked sweets. The last time i stayed there was last newyear and the weather on Newyears day was baking hot with a light breeze. It was wonderful to just sit out on the balcony in the morning eating cheese pies and sipping Greek coffee. The trees are full of birds and the air alive with crickets. my partner and i explored the winding little roads the spiral up to the Parthenon. The shops are great to pick up bargins, the owners loving to haggle. One little shop selling statues on the final incline to the Parthenon is a great place to get bargins, the old woman who runs it climbing energetically up and down high steps to find you the best molding of the Goddess Nike. She was adorable, i wish i could remember the store name. The Parthenon and the new Museum is asounding, the hall of the Godessess really brings alive the spirit of the ancient world and standing hundreds of feet above Athens gazing out of what used to be Constantinople.. is breath taking. I loved it... i will return again and again..

I know what you mean about Athens, It's a wondeful place to visit, i would be tempted to live there if not for the SMOKING everywhere. The last time i was in Athens i could only escape them by going into Starbucks and i dont really like their Chai Latte. I think the markets are great, you can pick up so many bargins there, but dont put them in your case like i did as you arrive with half what you left with. Does anyone know what the name of the Temple is next to the Parthenon which has the goddesses standing all around it? i can't remember ... i think it starts with K

Caryatids. There are five (replicas). There were six. Elgin nicked one. The other five originals are in the Acropolis museum. What you are thinking of is called 'the porch of maidens' and the building itself is the (spelling?) Erechtheum.

I have never been to the Island but my Ex has family there and it is meant to be one of the most beautyful of the Greek islands. I stumbled over this site
santorini netcaldera which shows you live web cam of Santorini to give you an idea if what the Island is like.

Also bit of useless triva is: Aparantly the parting of the Red sea was apparantly caused when Santorini (then a volcano) exploded. The red sea was miss interpreted as the Red Sea from the Sea of Reeds which was a lake and the lake disapeared when Santorini erupted. Interesting eh?

Excellent.. Yes. It's all coming back to me now. Yes Elgin does have alot to answer for. is it true that British Museum cleaned the marbles with something that took off the top layer?. I didnt know about the Porch of maidens bit?, thats interesting. Thank you very much for that...

People say that the cleaning done in the 1930s damaged them but others dispute this. There is a suggestion that they were already well weathered but that removing 2000+ years of gunge and the remnants of the original paint just made it obvious. Maybe there's a bit of truth in both positions.

PS. There are some Carytids down the road from here in London, guarding the crypt at St Pancras Church in Euston Road. I assume they are copies of the ones in Athens.
