It's currently not possible for UK citizens to travel independently to Libya - you must travel as part of an organised package with a TO who will sort of the compulsory visa for you. Nor is it possible to enter from a neighbouring country such as Tunisia or Algeria. There is nothing anywhere near like a tourist infrastructure and about the only companies that do offer it as a tour destination are either the sepcialist trekking companies like Guerba or those doing specialist tours of the historic sites such as Abercromby and Kent or Cox and Kings. All in all it tends to make it a pricey destination. Friends who went last year on a 2 week tour with a specialist Eclipse watching operator reckoned that it cost them more than their usual 2 month DIY treks to South American destinations!
hope this helps

Just realised you asked where the trips leave from and if you need a visa rather than about the cost.
according to the panorama brochure I have the 3 day trip leaves from Djerba or the 5 day trip leaves from the monastir area. A visa is required which should be obtained from the libyan embassy in UK before departure.
