Perhaps it's a good April Fool tactic! I'd LOVE to avoid the M25 at all costs!

I'd agree with Glynis, between 5-6am is when the traffic starts to build up, definatley avoid between 6am-9am, after 9am on a monday isnt to bad ..

My daughter lives near junction 8 of the M25.and always leaves our house in the North East at 7pm on a Saturday evening. She does the 310 miles via the M1 inbetween 4-5 hours. When we go south we prefer the A1 and then the M11 and go clockwise round the M25.We usually leave here at 6-7am and arrive about midday. We avoid the Heathrow section at all costs as there always seems to be roadworks and very heavy traffic.

If you check out this link you may get some idea how you will get on getting round.

The roadworks at Heathrow are mostly finished now and it is a fairly smooth ride, although I would take care to obey the speed signs if I were you.

The M1 backs up around junction 11 at Luton from around 5:30 in the morning southbound and with the roadworks that have just gone in, will be worse than ever. Stick with the A1 or A1/M11, it will be better.

The motorways around London are no worse than than those around Manchester or Birmingham outside the rush hours, its just that the rush hour lasts all day down here.

Thnaks everyone for your advice and info.

We hit the M25 at the M1 join at around 10.00am on Monday morning, and flew around with no problem.
the same again (in reverse) this morning at 10.00am again. Again no problems.
PHEW, glad it's done though - don't like the traffic 'down south' at all
