Hi,
Has anyone visited Maayafushi?
I'm wondering what the rooms are like in particular. I'm looking at going with Portland, and room details on their website are very brief. Would it be a beach bungalow? We don't want to be on a second storey for instance. Any feedback appreciated as I continue to enjoy my Maldives research!
We've just booked to go in March 2007, i found a great site
http://www.mayafushi.co.uk/
On there is a map of the island, and the whereabouts of where the accomodation is. Word is that in the centre of the Island there used to be a block of around 10 rooms, (which were two storey) and these used to be holiday accomodation, but they are now massage rooms etc. The standard accomodation is a beach bungalow, in what looks like blocks of four (one storey only). All are situated fronting onto the beach, so all have sea views. They look basic, but are meant to be spotless, cleaned twice a day.
I had the same concerns as you, before i booked i to looked at Portland and got bothered that there were different types of accomodation, and for us it was a must for it to be on/near the beach.
Hope this helps but check the website out, the forum is good.

Who did you book with?
I also emailed Martin who runs the website, and the rooms all face the sea and are 5 seconds from the ocean, which sounds perfect!
We booked with Thomas Cook, and cannot wait. We went to Kuredu about 3 years ago and loved it, so fingers crossed we'll feel the same way about Maayafushi.
