Seen a couple of hotels in Tunisia now and these two are the ones that stand out at the moment based on reviews etc
The Riu imperial Marhba hotel is in PEK the MLPBI hotel is in Djerba
Not sure what area is best as never been to Tunisia before, will be going around the 6th July for 1 week AI, wont be venturing out too far I expect but would like to have some shops/restaurants nearby...If there are any??
Any feedback on either of these would be great

Just came back from p.e.k. last week after 2 weeks in the Maharba Palace, which was really good apart from the entertainment, however they only do full board ,and not AI,but the hotel next to us did.Its called the Riu Green Park and we heard some excellent reports about this hotel.Might be worth a check.
I saw that one earlier on either the thomson or first choice site, doesnt look as nice as the Riu Imperial Marhaba though.
In p.e.k. you have the port area with restaurants ,bars and shops. There's also a bar called the Irish bar opposite the Maharba Palace,( definitely not Irish though),which has some decent entertainment , or you can get the road train down to Sousse for about £1.50 each.
Just heard from Thomson two weeks prior to us leaving for Tunisia that the hotel refurb is not finished, no surprise as they have been a load of tripe throughout this holiday booking, we are due at the Imperial marhaba and will of course be sure to enjoy ourselves if allowed to do so, however we have no confidence in Thomson as this booking has been a disaster on their part for many months, first they changed our flight from day to night, we rejected that cancelled and re booked to another date then they changed the luggage weight from 23 kg to 20 kg although we booked this holiday prior to the brochure change when the original one stated the 23 kg. as we were booked on platinum/premier. The many phone calls to Thomson take for ever and a day to get through and when they do answer your call they are not at all helpfull. Not a good experience when this is our first visit to tunisia and the tunisian people are keen for the tourist's to return. Will see what happen's and will report on our return.
Im thinking about going here as there seems to be more in the area of PEK than the hotel we were going to book in Mahdia.

Hi Sarah no confirmation on how far the refurb has progressed, they just say that it has over run although it would appear that it's not just a refurb but structural work to the hotel . we will be sure to make the most of our first visit and will of course request rooms as far away from the work as possible. The reviews from people that have been to the hotel in previous years are very good and we do not put any blame on the hotelier, it is Thomson that have failed in their duty but unfortunately it would seem from other tourist's with thomson that people are far from happy with them (after all they are in it for your money). We will see soon enough and report back on our return.
