Following their holiday to the above my parents noted the following problems in particular at the Hotel Thalassa in Mahdia:
In connection with the Brochure (Thomson)
The Hotel is not 1km from the Resort Centre, it is 3km. The Hotel does have satellite TV but this is of little use if there are no English Channels. Repeated requests failed to get this installed.
In connection with the Hotel
The staff are very friendly but speak little or no English. We were on the third floor and the lifts only worked on one day during our stay. This caused a great deal of hardship as my mother has had a hip replacement and my father is awaiting an operation on his knee.
In connection with the Resort
Mahdia is not really geared up to the tourist industry; with few bars/cafes and restaurants; unlike Monastir, Sousse and Port el Kantanoui. Although not Thomson's fault they would add that for the final five days of their holiday they were the only English visitors in the Hotel, which did not help with the enjoyment of their stay.
On their website it mentions that there is an indoor pool; however it does not say that this is part of the Health Spa and costs extra to use it.
Their Rep, Lynsey was very helpful and did her best to rectify the problems that they have encountered. It was unfortunate that there were not enough takers for one of Thomson's excursions to take place (Arabian Nights Excursion). Also the timing of the two excursions that they managed to book, was not satisfactory. The Show Stoppers Night meant that they returned to their Hotel at 1:15am on Saturday morning and their Two Cities Excursion started at 7:00am the same day. There was no other time that either of these excursions could have been taken.
Finally, on board their flight to Tunisia with Thomson Fly.com they were told that there was no time difference when in fact Tunisia time is 1 hour ahead of GMT.

So sorry to hear that your parents' holiday did not live up to their expectations but do hope they still managed to enjoy themselves. Things like trouble with the lifts can happen in any hotel of course, but it does make it difficult when you have walking difficulties. The timing of the excursions was certainly unfortunate and Thomsons should have realised that. The extra cost of using the indoor pool should also have been mentioned. It seems strange that the company didn't know of the time difference in Tunisia when everyone on here knows about it but that was simply ignorance on their part and I'm sure it didn't affect the holiday.
Sorry that I couldn't forewarn you about the indoor swimming pool, as I had no idea of the situation. I do however think it totally unacceptable to state the hotel as having an indoor pool without the info that it had to be paid for. as anyone reading about an "indoor pool" would expect it to be free to use. Thomsons need to get that sorted.
I hope that your parents do not give up on Tunisia. Maybe Port el Kantaoui or Hammamet would be more suited to their needs. As i said previously, we all want different things out of our holiday. Aslemma will visit us in Mahdia and be thankful that it is only for one day - whilst we will visit her in Sousse and think exactly the same thing!! I do hope that your parents enjoyed the greater part of their stay. All best wishes to them. Jenny
Oh Jenny, you are absolutely right of course, but I hadn't thought I'd made it quite so obvious Never mind, we'll split the difference and meet up in Monastir again, as we did in April, if I get out there in October.Aslemma will visit us in Mahdia and be thankful that it is only for one day
Winter prices are not out yet Aslemma, so can't give any dates, but must add for everyone else out there - Mahdia is VERY VERY quiet in winter! (bliss---------!) Jenny
