Hi. I have not been to the Maldives in September myself but the forecast will generally say scattered thunderstorms as there will be a risk of thunderstorms in the Maldives. However Maldives are spread over a large area and it can be raining on one island and not on the island next to it. Infact I have known it to rain at one end of the island and not the other end! When you do get a downpour they usually tend to be very heavy and clear very quickly.
I would expect you to get some rain but as I said these are just usually showers that pass quickly. You will have plenty of sun as well.
Check out the official weather site below.

Thanks Michelle! That's put my mind at rest - I will be in big trouble with the hubby if the weather is bad as I insisted we go in September as I can't wait any longer for my summer hols :-)
We are off in 3 weeks time and hopefully the forecast will be wrong - when we have been previsously it has been forecast as sun/cloud and we had some glorious days... I have never known it to show as thunderstorms all week.
But as previosuly said - The Maldives are scattered over a large area (they must cover an area the size of UK) and it can be raining on one island and not on another.
Watching a programme on TV the other night (Equator) not sure when it was filmed but it showed they had flooding in Asia, hope this is not heading towards the Maldives
Also this site tells you of previous recent flooding in Asia:

Bit old now but it sure is worth the award
http://www.maldivesinfo.co.uk it has information and reviews on nearly all the islands in the Maldives.
Have a look at Thankfully after that it was bright sunshine for the rest of our holiday.
One thing you can not guarantee the weather especially in the rainy season.
welcome to HT marathon lady!
I did used to use the forums a lot mainly the Greece one but not been for a while and fogot my user I.D. so had to start again , but I am glad I am back!
We went to The White Sands Resort for our honeymoon in 2003, which was absolutely fantastic. We want to go back to the Maldives next year for a holiday and would like to try a different island, somewhere small and quiet, similiar to The White Sands, has anyone got any suggestions as I am getting a bit lost looking on the internet. We would like to go AI and perferably somewhere without children.
Thanks
Komandoo would fit the bill! No children under 12 after January 2007. Small, all inclusive - superb island.
If you have stayed here Lucie why not add your review
We are trying Bandos at Easter as its a family friendly island and will be my 10 year old sons first visit and have booked with eclipse. Review promised!

I took factor 50 with me as I do burn easily (and guess what got severe sunburn on backs of legs on day one, couldn't walk or stand without pain for two days, not recommended).
The best one I find because of the water there is the Avon Factor 50 for kids. It's not overly thick, and turns white in the water as it is both waterproof and water resistant. I would certainly recommend this and am taking it again when I go back in February.
I agree with previous posts, wear a t-shirt when snorkelling. I got some strange looks when I went in wearing trousers but then couldn't risk getting more sunburn on backs of legs. Didn't have any trouble snorkelling when fully clothed.
Hope this helps.
We like the look of Meeru Island at the moment (the Jacuzzi villas are particularly inviting) but we were wondering if anyone had any idea of alternatives.
Any help would be much appreciated as we need to book really soon!
Thanks
the "intended" and i also had a probem on which island to pick for our honeymoon. we opted for a good all rounder ie Kuredu.
if you do your homework you will find plenty of reports regarding most of the islands to help you with your choice.
good luck !
On your honeymoon I'd say you'd want one of the small islands. I'd reccommend the deluxe water villas at Veligandu or the jaquzzi villas on Koomandoo.
Also, regarding Koomandoo and Veligandu I can't seem to find a travel company which goes to them (we are looking at going with Thomas Cook as we have Thomas Cook vouchers to use).
One other question, what is the seaplane flight like? I'm quite keen on it but my fiancee isn't and I need to convince her!
Many thanks
we are stopping in a jacuzzi beach villa, therefore staying at the 4*Sangu Resort end of the island. check out their website. as i said before, it looks like a good all rounder.
Kuredu is one of of the biggest and liveliest islands in the Maldives just so you know. Great if you are after that sort of thing but not the quiet exclusive Honeymoon spot you may (or may not) be after.
