Others will be more up on this than me as I am not very religious but I think you have to make sure tjat your legs and head are covered.

Annabella, there should be no problem with visiting a mosque. Avoid prayer times, especially on a Friday. You will need to cover your head and legs - men must not wear shorts - and remove your shoes before entering. I haven't visited any of the mosques in Icemeler but I am sure that you will be made welcome if you are seen to be being respectful in your dress. It always surprises me just how quiet and peaceful it is in them - a total contrast to the noise and bustle of a holiday resort. I hope that you enjoy your visit. :wave

You will be able to go into the Mosque in Icmeler, we were taken there by Rhona who owns the Tolan apartments, the one in the old village.

As previous reports be respectful, no shoes dress modestly, it is so very peaceful and you will be given the full history.

One thing I forgot to do was take some money with me to put in the collection plate, I am sure they will be very greatful for a donation.

Ask some one where you are staying to arrange it for you.

Hi

You can actually book this as a day out.
The Village Tour, done it about 3years ago,i thought it was very good.Picked up from hotel about 8ish/9ish....the guide we had was lovely.
Take you into the villages, even into a womans house who made us all bread.Get to go into a school..it was so hot dont know how the children sit in there.Allowed to go into a Mosque, but had to remove our shoes and put shawls over our heads...i wouldnt suggest going in a bikini top like one woman, she had to be covered up. Was nice to see and all the beautiful rugs that had been donated to the Mosque also.
Went to a factory where they show you how the Turkish Rugs are made....cant believe how much work goes into them.
All throughout the day you are given lots of information and the days to day lives of the people.

Would definately do it again.

Thank you so much for your replies xxxx Yes, i would definatly remove shoes, cover head and go by all the rules. Are the Mosques open every day, and at certain times or, can you just go when you want to? I have heard the prayer times, 4 times daily so i suppose you would have to visit inbetween those times would you? I don't suppose photos are allowed are they? Happy hols Anna xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

A couple on the mini-bus with us kicked up a real stink about having to take their shoes off and cover their heads. I was embarrassed to be English.

we were able to take pics in a mosque that we were visiting, forget just where, but I suppose that this will be something that varies and you will need to ask first. Also people were praying whilst we were visiting so we were just asked to be respectfull by the guide
I think that prayers are 5 times daily, judging by local mosques at home.
As others have said, they are really cool and tranquil places, just the place on a scorching hot afternoon.
