I've had a quick search on the forum for information on Myrtle Beach and couldn't find much, but apologies if I'm duplicating previous queries.
The wife and I have the opportunity to stay in a condo at Myrtle Beach free of charge but I don't know a huge amount about it and the surrounding area. We will be meeting friends there and I will be playing some golf as there are apparently loads of different courses. However, it doesn't appear to be the easiest place to reach from the UK and so I would prefer to spend 2 weeks there as our main holiday for the year. Apart from golf and beaches, what else would you recommend in the area? We will probably hire a car and have done fly drive type holidays in the US as well, so would be prepared to spend a few days exploring further afield and staying in hotels. We would look to go the end of June.
It's not far from Charleston which is an interesting town if you are into the history of the South. Also if you are driving, try to get to Savannah- a very pleasant place. From the UK probably your best bet is to come into Atlanta (ATL)or Miami (MIA)and then get a connecting flight to Myrtle Beach (MYR). The capital of South Carolina is Columbia -that would also be a flight option,it's about 150 miles away and an easy drive.
June will be HOT and HUMID. If you are not used to it,it can drain you as you are expecting to do things in the afternoon the way you can in the UK on a summer day- however you will find lots of people inside/shades drawn/ until it cools down. Golf- 7am tee times are routine....
Mad dogs and Englishmen- eh!
