Hello, I am hoping someone can offer me some much needed advice. I booked a holiday some time ago with the Cooperative travel and my husband had a heart attack since and had to have quite a bit of time of work which led us to the decision of having to change the holiday to a cheaper one as we no longer can afford the one we booked, We have always taken travel insurance as soon as we book but this time as luck would have it I delayed.... So the problem is, we found a holiday which would cost us £940, we had already paid £600 deposit, which would leave an affordable balance of £340, even adding admin costs for the amendments it would still be well worth making the change and meant our holiday was once again affordable. Problem is the Coop want to charge us in excess of £2200 in total to change to this 'cheap' holiday... When I booked I told them I had found the holiday I wanted on Jet 2 holidays but did not like booking with a faceless company but much prefer dealing with a travel agent. they went ahead and booked the original holiday. I have asked them what it would cost us to amend this holiday and that is when they gave us the figure of £2200+ I was astounded and asked them for a breakdown of their costs, this they said they couldn't give it to us! They blamed the excess cost on Jet 2. However after numerous pointless discussions with them I told them I would phone Jet 2 myself and ask them about their amendment fees, they told me this would be pointless as they would not speak to me as they had made the booking, so I phoned them... they told me that yes they could access my details and told me the amendment fee would be £120 in total, they then looked for my details and said that no tour operator had made any booking with us as passengers with Jet 2 holidays, I then began to realise what they had done, they had booked me flight only with a separate hotel and transfers. I called the coop back and they came up with a lot of nonsense saying that they would only charge me 1850, but best thing i could do would
be to cancel lose the deposit and rebook with them the 940 holiday, I am now at a loss what to do, they surely should have warned me that this holiday cannot be amended without being heavily penalised. Can anyone help me with any advice. Many thanks alison
It seems to me that the CO-OP are applying the letter of the law here...I would suggest writing to their customer relations department and appealing to their better nature (if they have one) - but I wouldn't hold my breath....
Best of luck, J.
Did Coop send you a confirmation or anything showing the details of what you've booked?
