Yes, we went to Lanzarote earlier this year and that was very expensive too so back to Turkey again next year for us too.

One of our holidays next year is to Ibiza with the family. We have heard numerous times it is expensive so better save extra hard! Going Half Board at Don Toni Hotel.

We usually go to Malta, found it expensive, so we are trying Turkey for the first time.

We go to turkey twice every year and we decided to go to ibiza this year for a change and it was terrible what we were having to pay for regular meals etc. Everyone on thecomplex was complaining as it was so expensive. Back to turkey for us next year. Jacqui

In my nearest travelcare they have been packed everyday, I asked them are they all booking places like turkey and they said eygpt and turkey, nobody wants the euro zone holidays. My mate went to turkey last year and didn't like it, went to majorca this and loved it. I would rather to majorca and done many times, we tried ibiza one year and didn't like it compared to majorca and everything was more expensive in ibiza compared to majorca.

My mate went to marmaris and said the beach is awful, bingo everywhere, too many british.

There is much more to Turkey than Marmaris. It's not a resort I would choose to stay in but I regularly go to other smaller Turkish resorts and love them.

I was just about to say the same. Marmaris is not the only place in Turkey and it is probably the one resort I would never consider going to. There are loads of lovely resorts in Turkey that are nothing like Marmaris.

Personally I have enjoyed every single holiday I have ever been on in many different countries. After working since the day I left school til the day I retired I just love being away from work, kitchen sink and household chores. Just make the most of every minute I am away.

Next year mine and his family are going to side, I did say to him its not the best resort marmaris, so I am hoping he will like side better than marmaris.

I am off to Icmeler next week and will go to Marmaris on an evening. The Marina is beautiful and lovely to walk around.
I originally went to book a holiday to Palma Nova but it wasnt available for dates that suited us,so ended up going back to Turkey!
I have enjoyed every holiday in Turkey I have had and like Icmeler and Side the best.
Not everyone enjoys Side as it caters mainly for other Europeans.
I think its important to research your hotel and this can avoid a holiday from hell.
My friends daughter has recently come back from a 5star hotel in Gumbet that turned out to be a 2 star dump.!

I agree that researching your hotel is important, however, your idea of a hotel maybe different to mine, and this is where you need to be careful.
We recently came back from Olu Deniz, we researched our hotel both on here and other sites. The consensus was the hotel was nice, with a nice pool and friendly staff, rooms cleaned every day etc.. Yes, the pool was nice, but what was failed to be mentioned was the constant loud music played at the pool bar during the day, which meant I had to put my ipod on at full volume to try and drown out the disco/club music. The rooms were not clean, the toilet in particular was filthy and there was vast amounts of mold in the bathroom. I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

So yes, research your hotel, but don't take the information as gospel, it's just a guide. Peoples ideas of standards of hotels differ greatly as your friends daughter found out. Unless your paying top dollar for a 5* AI hotel, then in my opinion, don't expect too much.
Mostly, hotel reports vary - some think it to be great, others find it ok, and some may think it awful, so research is a guide only. If there are constant good report about a hotel, then you stand a good chance that it is what you are looking for. Of course, holiday budgets play an important part in choosing where to stay, and if a hotel has constant good reports, then the price usually is higher, so not everyone can afford it, so you look at a cheaper option, and this is where problems like the one I had above can sometimes occure.

I always tend to take more notice of the bad reports than the good ones, if somebody is happy they won't menetion the bad points but you get all the bad points in the bad reports.

Went to Bodrum in August, very nice place but for the first time after a number of reasonably priced holidays in other areas of Turkey found it expensive. This was especially so for soft and alcoholic drinks, even more expensive than Euro countries. The exchange rate did not help though !

holidays can be as cheap or as expensive as you make them
we always go 1/2 board , always have lunch out , sometimes eat out of an evening depending what is on menu at hotel , this year we found it very reasonable using the euro , actually we were very pleasantly surprised with prices, only been to Turkey once and that was self catering , and wow we spent a packet eating out . wont put me off visiting turkey again though

We went to Es Cana but had a day trip to St Eululia, the prices was double, first time to Ibiza loved Es Cana, the prices was fine and a good family resort, did notice the hotel drink prices was on line with the bars for the first time, so that was good
