Hi, me and the girlfriend are planning a trip to Phuket for new years..we are Goa regulars and thought that we would do something else for a change..what kind of a resort is Phuket? we are hoping to spend days at the beach and the nights clubbing, are we heading to the right location?..also looking at staying at the Amari Coral Beach Resort, has anyone stayed here before? any reviews would be highly appreciated..
thanks a ton in advance
thanks fiona for the links. the hotel does sounds fab, but the patong club scene might put the gf off a bit, we're more comfortable with the "tamer" goa club scene..let me run it by her before we book..thanks a lot again
If the Patong puts you off there are quieter resorts on Phuket like Kata or Karon (although still lively), Bang Tao for example you could be looking at...Phuket is a large island so its quite possible to find the kind of resort your looking for... even I've found places to stay in Phuket that meet my requirements, and I like quiet Thai style resorts.
The Amari has the plus that its not quite in Patong so you can get away from the wild side fairly easily.

Sunbear - thank you for the info, i'm going to check out Karon and Bang Tao- are there any hotels that you would recommend at these resorts? cheers
Have a look at this site..its good for photos of Phuket hotels

I did visit the Karon Beach Resort many years ago...good setting. Also stayed at the Kata Beach Resort on a couple of occasions..a nice hotel directly on Kata beach. Bang Tao has the Laguna complex, a number of hotels from three to five star. A bit manicured for my taste. There are other hotels available though

Why not have a look at Chaweng in Koh Samui?
