Can anyone tell me where (or indeed if) I can book a cruise on the Nile combined with a weeks stay at a hotel (Red Sea)? Thanks in advance
Jo
Yes you can do both. Best prices for the Thomson one (Celebration) are at p227 on teletext ITV1.
Sorry Jo, have read your question again, my answer is based on a Red Sea cruise and not a Nile cruise. The answer is still yes, have seen these Nile cruises listed on P227 also. Not sure about quality or anything, they seem incredibly low priced at £300ish for the cruise and about £150ish for AI week stay, with "free" trips etc.
Thank you for replying so quickly - I have e mailed Thomson to see what they can offer me. Its for a 40th birthday surprise for hubby. Once again many thanks
Thanks Luci - much appreiated
the room
we booked it as a 5 star - same as the other boats it was probably less, however, it was a nice boat just not as new as some we saw.
the room was of ample size - we had an upper deck cabin, everything was clean, we had a fridge and a hairdryer.
the room was cleaned, beds and towels changed daily and the beds were so comfy we rarely made it up for breakfast!! i have to add that this is the first holiday accomodation i have stayed in where the shower was lovely and hot no matter what time you took one.
dining
as i said we very rarely made breakfast but on the days we did it was lovely. i would say there was something to suit all tastes. my son had cereal followed by omlette and there was as much tea and coffee as you needed.
lunch - there were 3 choices of hot food, although the food was never piping hot but i think this is normal in egypt as we stayed in 2 hotels after the cruise and this was typical. there was always salad if you didnt like the hot food on offer and if u were still not happy they would happily cook chips for you. desserts at lunch time were normally fruit or ice cream.
dinner - normally a soup to start with which were all very nice. again a choice of 3 hot meals, normally beef, chicken or fish, cooked differently each night. potatoes and veg oh and normally rice too. evening desserts were a lovely selection of cakes and mousses.
drinks were not included with meals but could be ordered from the waiters and were put on the bill which was paid at the end of the cruise
the trips
we booked our cruise with 10 excursions and we really were not disappointed. our guide was fantastic, knowledgable and friendly and would give advice on anything you needed to know. he made the excursions so much more interesting than i am sure they would have been if you had gone alone. the trip of the week had to be the valley of the kings on the last day, nothing prepared me for what i would see there and i was completely in awe.
general layout of the boat
the top deck had ample sunbeds, evryone who wanted one had one. there was a small pool which i never went in but others did. tea/coffee and cakes were served up here late afternoon, no complaints there, they were lovely. the best part of the day- afternoon - laid on a sunbed, relaxing panpipe music playing and the banks of the nile moving past like on the big screen..............it was so chilled out!!!
there was a shop on board, he sold silver jewlerry and clothing. most people bought their galybeos from here for the party, no hassle and cheap.
there was internet access and a pool table which my son made good use of and i think every member of staff on the boat played with him at some point.
the bar was spacious, with a small dance floor, comfortable seating. we drank the beer which was £2.50 per can, although they were much larger cans than we would drink at home.
staff
i have to mention the staff as they were so good. the waiters worked very hard in the dining room and then afterwards in the bar, they must be so tired but still they smile all the time- nothing is too much trouble.
i have no complaints at all about this boat - we all had a fantastic time and hope to go again next year but incorporate a 2 day trip to cairo
