I have managed to persuade him on the basis that (1) it will be a very very cheap break, (2) it's somewhere different for us, (3) there's lots for all the family to do, nice restaurants and good shopping, and (4) it will be a fantastic opportunity to stock up on some good wine and beer in time for christmas (think that might be the decider!). Having almost persuaded him, I've just realised that I don't actually know what I'm talking about!

The best history lesson you could have and a very sobering but enjoyable trip. we went over on the eurotunnel from dover and it was a 3 hr drive the other side but you can go portsmouth/caen-ouistreham that would take you near enough there. we stayed in bayeux where the tapestry is which is very central to all the DD stuff but there is much more there to see and do if you dont fancy days on end of Dday.
