I know it's against UK law to bring more than 200(?) each back in (from non-EU) but is it actually against Indian law to take over a certain amount out?

You can probably tell that I don't smoke.

No I don't think so
The cigis were bought in shops at the regular price. If this should happen to me I would firmly insist on speaking to a Superior, to make an official complaint, against this person. As there are no rules as to the amount of cigis you can take out of the country.
Do not pay a bribe

As far as I am aware there's no limit going out... They're just trying to scam you... split as much as you can between bags... and avoid the hassle...

not paying a bribe could, I suppose, result in the Goan Authorities notifying their British counterparts, which means you could lose them anyway. Not a good idea to have a lot of rupees on display leaving Goa either.

I do know that if I had been breaking the law (on entering UK) , the last thing I would do is post it on a public forum!!

NE Julie, wife and I take the car and go to Belgium/ France via North Sea Ferries once a year and stock up, have a good weekend away and save a fortune without any legal problems also gives you chance to stock up on wine and silly as it sounds soap powder.
If you live further South than us its worth doing a weekend in the Folkestone area and nipping across for the day... and legal.

When we go to Goa and Turkey we just bring back the legal limit.

Even to the extent of buying 3 bottles of Honeybee (75 cl) and drinking approx 25 cl out of one, to get back to the 2 litres allowance.

A blatant con.I would have called his bluff and to hell with it.I seriously doubt he would have had the know how to contact U.K. customs.

When we went to Gambia earlier in the year I noticed that the bags were scanned on arrival but not on departure. They have insufficient machines for both.
Why ? Because they were more interested in confiscating over the limit duty frees, which no doubt they profit from, rather than looking for possible bombs and guns being taken on to the plane !
Several people had their cigarettes confiscated and one couple were demanding their rep sent them straight back home on the next flight. :duh :duh

Del949,

I brought back 2 bottles of honey bee and as I am the 'honest' type started walking through the big red scarey section of customs, only to be greated by a nice young fellow who asked what I had, and he said, don't worry go through the green section, don't think they really mind the little bits (which are for personal consumption), they're more interested in the big fish... I don't think the Indian counterparts would inform the UK side...

Hi Rob, two botlles of honey bee is under the limit you can bring in , as the botles are only 75 cls.
I agree that customs are only interested in big fish, but if they are having a quiet day......... :D

well what can i say,we only brought 1kg each of tobacco back{only allwoed 1/2 kg ],but we did bring a box of little blue tablets :rofl and guess what o/h case was scanned had the wrapper thing put on and we went to check in got our boarding card and then someone tapped him on the shoulder and said you sir come back.they unwrapped his case ,saw the little blue things and he had to pay £30,they said if he didn,t pay they would arrest him.we were a bit worried cauce 1st time in goa and didn,t really know what was what,,could have seen us on banged up abroad.,we,re still laughing about it,it was our own fault for having them ,so cant complain,,,funny thing is we were both stopped in uk on return and the security man just said ok you havent got many so you can keep them :que dont think we.ll be fetching them back next time tho.

Little blue things,,,, guess this means the drug that if mentioned incurs the auto censor!
is it just me I wonder, I wouldn't dream of buying drugs that interfere with heart / blood pressure etc from such a source.
I buy diahorrea tablets , if needed, when there and am always a bit worried about even them.
Even in the UK there have been reports of counterfeit drugs finding there way into proper chemist stocks, I can only imagine the risks one must take buying them in India.
I have no idea of what the cost of the active ingredient in these tablets is but am sure that there must be a cheaper substitute for rogue manufacturers to replace it with.
By the way, Valley lady, did they work? :D

As long as whatever you have in your possession is legal and purchased over the counter in India who's to say you are not going to declare them on your return to the UK ?
There is no way you should bow to this sort of pressure.

I don't know about the laws in India, but is this drug LEGALLY available over the counter or should you have a prescription for it?
I know it's widely available anyway.

it would be funny after we all assume the little blue tabs are censored and what is really meant is some blue breath fresheners, I remember years ago in my youth being offered purple hearts which turned out to be Parma Violets!

on a more serious note, I suppose that it is more important than ever to take copies of the script with you for any prescriptions drugs you get in the UK

One longstayer told me last season that he took many, many, packets of the "blue pills" home, his son then proceeded to sell them in his social club at £1 per pill, and this bought next years flights back to Goa. He made no secret of this and it was common knowledge in the shack he used. I'no idea of the legality of this on the Indian side, and as they are a prescription drug in the U.K. I'd imagine the sale of them would be of great intrest to the U.K. customs. Whether this type of action has spurred the Goan Authorities to start looking more closely into suitcases ,I dont know.

U.K. customs have no interest in prescription Meds bought for personal consumption but are rather more bothered about you bringing them back to sell.

I suppose a years supply of a hundred would be no problem.

Another reason they are not bothered about small amounts is they would actually have to have them tested to see if they were genuine.Imagine the cost.

As for the Indian attempts at extortion I would call their bluff and see if they really arrested me.Bet they would not dare.

They are just looking for an easy target.

As for the said pills can't you buy them over the counter in Boots now?
