Taxis are really plentiful and cheap. We were staying way off the other side of the strip and were able to get a taxi into the old town for about 4 euro. What end of the strip are you staying at. If you are staying at the Praia D Oura end I think you would walk into the Old town in about 20/25 mins. Hope this helps. Have a great trip.

The weather will be lovely. Could be as high as 30 during the day. You may ned a cardy at night. Enjoy. :)

We stayed just off the strip and the taxi rank was just round the corner. Cost about €4. There is also a tourist train (otherwise known as "the Wally Trolley") which runs in a circular route between Old Town and New Town. During the day we used to walk to the beach and then along the beach front, paddling our feet in the sea, to the Old Town, a little walk round the shops, a coffee, and back along the beach - a lovely walk.

That's cool, thanks for all of your help. Sounds like it's is easy to get around throughout the day and night!!! And the weather sounds really good as well!! Really excited now!

Not to sure what end of the strip we are staying....we are staying at Hotel Apartamento Dom Pancho if anyone knows it!?

Also does can anyone recommend any nice romantic restaurants?

Hi ya - Dom Pancho are a short walk from the strip, down a side road about 200 metres long there are restaurants in the side road that are nice, too many to mention on the strip and the cab will be 4 euro to the old town where again loads of restaurants. Depends on what food you want to sample. I am going in October although 21st have been before it was lovely and hot but last year they had a few rainy days take a jacket for the evening it will be quite windy. I have just come back from there after 18 days away it was lovely so lookin forward to going back again.

With regards to taxis to and from the old town and Strip, I wouldn't bank on being able to get one easily on a weekend. We were there mid-August (which is admittedly a busy period), and had no bother with taxis during the week, but were faced with two-hour queues from the old town to the Strip on the Friday and Saturday nights, until we found that little train thing, which was a bit of a godsend.

Regardless of which bit you're in, you'll have a great time regardless. As far as the Med's 'lively' resorts go, I haven't been to one better than Albufeira.

Richards correct about the taxi queue, but this is in peak time, during August all the Portugese go to Albufeira for their annual holidays so everything gets a bit congested. In October all will back to normal so dont worry about getting about.

the tourist train is the way to go, in june when i went it was 3 euros for as many trips in 24 hours as you wished, just keep your ticket.

luckily my hotel then was right in front of the train stop (vila gale cerro alagoa) next stop the strip, and the last stop the old town :) then it starts again all day long until about 2.30am the next morning

I'm so pleased to hear that it is easy to get taxi's in and out the old town Albufiera! Me and my fiance are staying in the Ondamar Hotel which is aparently near both the new and old town? - Has anyone stayed at the Ondamar? I find walking up hills quite difficult because I have MS but we would both like to spend time in the old town (wthout the big hill walks  ) any words of reassurance?

Lots of thanks in advance!

Hi Carrie,
The Old Town is pedestrianised so you won't be able to get a taxi from the middle of it.Another problem is that you can't 'hail' a cab in Portugal as you can in many countries and you have to go to the taxi ranks to get one.A local resident, such as cubsur or Algarve Addick (correct spelling) will be able to tell you exactly where to find a taxi rank with the minimum hill-walking;why not send one of them a personal message?

Thank you very much for that!

I'll get in touch with someone :D

Hi,

2 taxi ranks we used were up the new pedestrainsed area towards the bus station and just past the Bank restaurant, next left up a short, sharp hill (this is the closest to the Square)
