Sound like a good idea. My teenage girls got some "sensible knickers" from their granny at xmas which haven't been out of the packet except for the" I'm not wearing those" scream . I'll take those too.

Sorry to disagree, this is my second post where I've disagreed today (oops....) But if the children need socks then they can't be that bad off, as socks means they wear shoes instead of flip flops, if they wear shoes then they're quite well off as they are 10 or 20 times the cost of flip flops. I work in the slums and none of the children wear shoes! Some don't wear flip flops!!! So perhaps you could give money to buy these, we bought some a while back managed to get them for 25 Rs/- a pair, although I'm sure we got them for a bargin, haven't seem them that cheap since.

If you'd like to know more then please contact me... (preferably via the email address on the Children Walking Tall website)

When we return in November I would like to buy flip flops and stuff for the children, as well as fruit and chocolate of course!!! Where is the best place to go shopping for flip flops when we arrive. Will be bringing some clothes as well. Have a niece and nephew with more clothes than you can imagine, girl aged 8 and boy 3 so will bring some clothes they no longer use.

Hi Gemma

Have a look at the childrenwalkingtall website. They prefer you not to take sweets or chocolate as most of the children won't have a toothbrush. Fruit or money to buy fruit is preferred.

Thanks Zosie, do you think just best to get flip flops at the local markets in Mapusa or maybe the the little stalls in resort?

To be honest I don't know. Best idea would be to contact Rob from children walking tall (assuming that's the charity you're planning on donating to!), although his previous post on this thread suggests just donating the money for them to buy what's needed.

If you're thinking of buying flip flops then Mapusa would probably be best. If you're wanting to buy something it's probably best to ask the charity first and then if needed I'm sure someone from the charity could point you in the right direction or come with you. A lot of people want to do the buying to make sure it goes on what they want, we had some very nice people who have just bought us a tumble dryer using this method.. It would be best to talk to them first though as we have been caught when two people wanted to get the same thing on the same day! If you want to buy things for C.W.T. then you are more than welcome to email me (via the website - see my link below) We have a good collection of footware at the moment due to some crazy prices at Aldi and very generous visitors. Somethings we're after at present is Rice (as we're feeding about 50 children each day), fruit, rain coats (monsoon getting close!), milk (we use 15-20 packets each day. Sorry not been writing much as we're open and it's kinda busy!!!! :? - I'm also trying to get the newsletter out in the next dayy or too... If anyone wants to receive it then just send me an email (via the website) and say 'Newsletter please!)....

Thats great thanks for info. Just today we booked again to come over in November (already booked for February). I will be in contact before that and you can let me know what youre in greatest need of. I can bring some things or maybe go shopping when we arrive.
