we stayed in ortakent 3 years ago it`s a very quiet resort with a dozen or so resturaunts along the front the best of which is veras run by a turkish chap and his english wife vicky, the food is some of the best i have eaten in turkey. The beach is sand\shingle but gentle sloping, bitez is the next resort just around the bay approx 5 miles and then gumbet and bodrum. all worth a visit just to see the difference between resorts. you can get anywhere on the peninsula by using the dolmus a cheap and convenient way to get around.
so far as i can remember the nearest boat trips were from bitez.

Thanks for the reply Andy. Nice to hear from someone that has actually been. Sounds like a pretty quiet place, just what we're looking for, and we can always jump on a dolmus if we get bored. Thanks again.
