Been back just under a week, and thought i'd write a small report about our holiday...
Didn't start off too good - 7 of us were meant to depart from Teesside at about 11:00pm last Thursday. Got a phone call Thursday morning to say one of our friends was ill and didn't think she could go. Went to the Doctor's and he said she couldn't fly. Disaster before we even got there!
The 6 of us went, and got to the apartments about an hour or so ahead of schedule. Great.
We were staying at the Club Maric, just past Point Centre. Was clean and tidy, and nice pool. Won't go on about the place too much, but the staff weren't that great. David at the bar constantly looked depressed (don't we ever saw a proper smile from him), Tattoo/Tatu in the restaurant was a bit annoying, and the receptionist wasn't very reliable (I had to go get our key from behind the reception desk a few times because he was at the bar) or friendly (except maybe the last few days of our holiday). However, Shaggy in the restaurant was half decent, as was "Big Ron" AKA Hassan. Oh, and Michael, the night time receptionist/security guy was great. Very polite, even though he didn't know a great deal of English.
The last thing about these apartments - they have NO entertainment on a night. David kept trying to get us to go to a Turkish night, but we said no - and it never went ahead all the time we were there.
Moving on...
Went back to Club Happy Days (where we stayed last year) a few times......and it was great! Everyone was still there, and they all still remembered us. Have each others mobile numbers, and were texting throughout the holiday - really, really friendly people, and can't recommend the place enough. It's clean and tidy - admittedly, not The Ritz, but the staff make up for it no end.
The one place we have to recommend is the Bacchus Bar. Walk down to the front from the Point Centre, flick left, go over the bridge and it's on your left (alternatively, come out of McDonalds, walk forward down to the front, and it's left a little). They have a drag act on - Bella Beserk. We spent 3 nights there, it was absolutely amazing. If you go, ask Bella about her "Middlesbrough Boys at "Table 68". All 4 of the people there (The UNIQUE Vocal Talent of Mr Joe Williams, Denis, Bella Bezerk/John and her lovely partner John the Compere) are amazing, and the food is great too. Been to Marmaris 3 times, and had the best steak i've had, there.
Now for the bad points - got a huge blister on my finger off of a cigarette, new sandals rubbed and got a nasty blood blister on my foot.......and I got stung by a jelly fish (I think) when we were on the boat trip. Lovely.
Oh, and when I got home, I got a throat infection. Still off today!
Hope I haven't gone on too much, and no doubt there'll be another 10 posts after this, once the missus has read it and gave me the obligatory "Dan, you forgot to mention about....."
Going to Greece in 4 weeks on Sunday....then only a year before we can go back to Turkey!
Oh, and i'll be putting up a review for Club Maric soon.
Dan
Thanks for this report, All holidays have good points and Bad points, You really can never compare your accomadation with anything else you have been to, Yes it's difficult to get the accomadation you went to the last time and sometimes even that accomadation is different due to sometimes staff changes, Remember one thing here you can go to any of these hotel/appartments at anytime you want and you will be made most welcome also, Now for the staff, Due to the worst season Turkey's had in the last ten years some of these staff have not been paid for working 16 hours per day and are consistently told lies from the owners about being paid this I assure you is widespread in Marmaris and Icmeler, This is even happening in the Bar/Restauraunt I personally drink and eat in, Hopefully you will get over your bad points soon, cheers n beers.
Did you not get a ear infection Thanks for the report, warts and all. Despite some of the things you wrote I picked up on the fact you intend going back next year ... good man !

We've been trying to get two main holidays in a year, the past few years - one with our families, and one with our friends - 'the Turkey one'. My Girlfriends been to Marmaris 5 times now though, so I think we might be looking for somewhere else in Turkey next year. Heard Gumbet is supposed to be nice?
Saying that, one or two of our friends aren't that fussed on Turkey (for some strange reason), so I might have to tempt my Girlfriend to a quick week away to Turkey by ourselves!
Already counting down the days to next season....
By the way, I hope I didn't come across too negative in my original post - we actually had a great time!
