Hi chicken,
We had room 3428. It was a corner room with a large wraparound Balcony and a window in the bathroom.
It was quite a walk to the restaurants and reception but was very near to the pool. Very handy for loo breaks! It was also quite near to the beach. In fact a couple we met out there are requesting that room when they return next year.
If anyone going to this hotel in the near future wouldn't mind doing me a favour while you are there (it won't cost you any money) could you PM me please, it would really be appreciated.
Ellie
Me and My Fiance will also be there from the 26th Oct - Would be good to meet up for some drinks.
So excited now!!!
Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chaffesbird, room 3428, is it a top floor room. I say that as although it sounds ideal, we always request top floor (to avoid the clippety clopping above). Also who did you send the email to to pre-order your a'la cartes, any particular email address.
Yes it is a top floor room. The buildings are only 2 storeys high. The email address that I used was paradisus.ro@solmeliacuba.com. Don't forget to apply for a Sol Melia Mas card before you go. If you visit the Sol Melia website you will see the benefits you get with membership and best of all its free. Allow a couple of weeks for it to arrive. Mine didn't and I had to email them a couple of times. You do get a membership number given to you almost immediately and if you quote that when you email the hotel they will do their utmost to help you.
Thanks for the speedy reply. I have as you suggested visited the Sol Melia site and registered and recieved my reg. number. I assume they automatically send you a card as there was no mention of it. What benefits did you gain from the card?
Among the benefits is points towards a free stay at any Sol Melia Hotel, Priority on check-in, morning newsapaer (not sure thats a benefit) priority on reservations etc. I am sure there are a lot more. I know that when I emailed the RIO de Oro with all my requests, I quoted my MAS number and lo and behold all requests granted and a hand written letter was waiting for me on arrival at the hotel.
Thechiefy - we will be back from the hotel by the time you go otherwise would have definitely had some drinks! I can email you an up to date report when we get back if you would like.
Don't be surprised if you don't get much else. The newspapers are only available in certain countries (and Cuba isn't one of them) and there is no priority check in. I only got the card for the late check out though - and that worked a treat.
Chicken - Yes please e-mail me
*EDIT. EMAIL ADDRESS REMOVED AS PER TERMS AND CONDITIONS, PLEASE USE THE PRIVATE MESSAGE FACILITY. THANKS. PIPPY*
El Patio is the International Restaurant. Can't remember the names of the others but they are The Japanese, the Mediterranean and the Cuban. I didn't name the restaurants when I emailed them. Just asked them to book them whenever for about 8pm. I didn't mind which nights they were booked for as I knew I could rearrange them should the reservations interfere with planned trips.
Right then - I've sent the e-mail asking for the room that was mentioned and to book the resturants. I now need to know what the dress code is in the resturants and what is it like in general???
Long trousers I am afraid. 3 of the a la carte restaurants are air conditioned but the buffet and cuban arn't. It is a fantastic place. Enjoy lunch at the beach watching the waves while you are waited on by attentive staff or a pizza at the pool restaurant. The burgers are good as well.
My husband Daughter and I have been to this hotel 4 times, July 2005 the most recent. My daughter is in email contact with one of the waiters, most of the staff were given holidays from last week while the refurbishments take place to the pool, pool bar and pool snack bar. The beach restaurant is also being demolished because it is too close to the water under cuban law, it is being rebuilt but when we left on 29th July nobody seemed to know where!
We are going back on 19th December and have been told work will be finished by then! Although I don't know how long the work is going to take, my daughter's friend has been given 2 months off work so this MIGHT be an indication????
I don't want to worry you but better to be informed. Will post any further info that we find out directly from Cuba, usually get at least 2 emails per week.[/b]
What a nightmare - I will be really disappointed if all the facilities aren't on offer as we have been told about the new building etc but no indication about this work, although previous discussions on HT have mentioned the pool being shut during September.
Might email the hotel and see what they say - what do you think?
As work only started on Wednesday or Thursday, I would be tempted to wait a while before checking. Like I said if I find out anything direct from our contact in Cuba, I will post it on the site.
Hope everything is OK for you as it is a FAB hotel, we are already booked for Xmas/New Year and next July.
Thank you! Just told my husband and he is annoyed as he loves the pool - hope it doesn't spoil our holiday as we have had it booked for ages (and also saved up for ages as well) Also I take it you are a north east girl - we live in northumberland so hope you are a lucky charm and can give us some positive up to date information!
Bye for now, chicken
This would be a disaster for me as i hate sand so never go on the beach so the pool is essential
Will keep checking for your up-dates
Looks like my honeymoon might not be so perfect after all
Yes, now we are having some renovation works during the whole
September at the Pool and the Snack Bar "La Laguna" by its side. So, that's
the reason this two arears are close during this month. Meanwhile, clients
can use these sort of facilities at Sol Rio de Luna & Mares Resort instead,
which is a pretty short distance away. A shuttle service going back and
forth between the 2 hotels will be provided during the day.
The construction of a new Spa is taking place close to the Caleticas beach,
so access to these beaches through the hotel is close until December when we
expect the construction to be finish. But if you want go to Caleticas you can get a mini bus at the lobby all day from 9:30 am till 5 pm
Reading conflicting reports on other websites that the pool/pool bar/buffet restaurants will be closed during early October as well and we go then!
Cheers.
