I stayed in Patara a few years ago. The beach is legendary, but some of the bars restaurants etc. were looking a bit shabby and some weren't open. Apparently this was because the government had ruled that the many archaeological sites in the area were going to be excavated and people might have to move out of the village.
So what's it like now? Well, I've just spoken to someone who did a day trip to Patara recently and apparently there was only one bar open (Jimmys / Harrods). The said a number of the places we had used when we were there are now actually derelict and collapsing and there were piles of rubbish about the place.
The big hotel on the hill (the Merinem, formerly the Behan) apparently had a total of 11 guests!
At least the beach is still there (!) but it sounds as though the resort itself may be in terminal decline.
Friends of ours stayed in Patar in June, they were the only people in the hotel, hardly anyon around the resort.
Well, that seems to confirm it then. It seems crazy as it's supposed to be the best beach in Turkey. I wonder if it will ever get sorted out?
Cheers.
