We always use Ganesh's shack at Candolim.
He always charges for beds, whether you have food or not. I don't see this as a problem personally (well certainly not compared to what they charge in Europe). I am quite happy to pay R50 even though I know a lot of shacks don't make this charge.

Michelle
Goans really are lovely people and maybe in part it's OUR fault for the changes - after all, if the tourist industry ceased tomorrow most of them would be back on the fishing boats or working the land. The people here have to think about the future......no state pensions etc so at times you can understand it and even forgive them.
GFF xx
I agree with you
Its doesnt exactly encourage loyalty to use there shack
If it happens to us we will use a different shack every day
Variety is the spice of life they say..... Dont they
season spend plenty. We and anybody else have never been asked to pay for beds, providing you have your drinks and maybe a snack there they are happy. Its a bit different if you are at different shacks each day and dont eat or drink there.and i have seen some people get the free beds and at lunch time go to another shack for food.
I do agree though,it seems some shack owners are changing and becoming greedy so lets hope its just a minority
Roll on Monday,im missing my tanddori
I agree that you shouldn't have to pay for beds if you are paying for food and drinks and using the same shack on a regular basis. If I did use a shack and was asked to pay for the beds I wouldn't be back again, I know that's it not a lot to pay but if we use that argument what about the anti tipping policy for the porters at the airport? I know the answer to that one!!!!!! I have been using the same shack for years, i run up a weekly or two weekly tab sometimes, no problem, and bring them in quite a lot of business, I've been going 12 years now and honestly can't recall having a free drink on them nor do I expect one! but nor would I expect to pay for my beds!
We are going to Goa in February for the first time & don't know wether to laugh or cry about the possibility of being charged 50r. a day per sunbed ! The lovely wife (Rachel) & I went to Playa den Bossa in Ibiza in Sept. & they were charging 5 EUROS each per day there , plus the same for a sunshade !!!
Charging R50 is not good customer care, they know a good amount of people use forums like this one and this guy has just shot himself in the foot.

hi gramps, we are off to Goa on Sunday, for the 7th time and we see a change in attitude in a few of the taxi drivers, and we have only started 4 years ago. How is the weather? the long range f/cast is saying rain, but if you have been on the beach then its not too bad surely.
Ganesh never charged us for beds when we were there in April, but we always gave him a decent tip for the excellent service he gave us, so perhaps you could say we paid after all. :whoops.
