Hi, there are 3 cashpoints in Pefkos. I would only use them if you don't get charged for using your cards abroad. I would take TCheques for convenience reasons, there are 5 change places in Pefkos as well as your reception. If you lose your card you are stuck but if you lose your cheques they are replaced within 24 hours. Cashpoints are good for back up.

Im just back from Pefkos there are 2 cash machines basically at either end of the resort one is almost opposite Pefkos by Night the other is just a bit further along from taxi rank next to the restaurant with white chairs (cannot recall its name) opposite the road down to beach. They are both easy to use and have English options.

Sorry didnt notice there were 3 only saw 2 and I use the card that doesnt charge as it gives official bank exchange rate rather than tourist rate otherwise I wouldnt use them. I didnt get chaged any fees for using them.

They might have removed one since I was there.

So is the general opinion that I'd be daft to rely on visa/cashpoint card, and should take the old method of traveller cheques ?

I would take sterling travellers cheques and your visa for back up.

I think its down to personal preference.
I ditched tc years ago & use mine & my wifes Nationwide accounts to withdraw money.
Why pay commission charges when you dont have to.

I am another of the regulars wgo take enough Euro for the first day then either change Sterling (cash) localy for a better rate or use the ATM, you may say i am tight but i refuse to pay for both the purchace and encashment of traverlers cheques ( i know some say no commision but you dont usualy get the best rates)
