Hi andy,
Try a drive to Aljezur and have a look at Amoreira beach just outside the town.I've got a link to a photo somewhere and will post it here if I can find it.

Thanks Sagres, looks absolutely stunning,i would appreciate directions if you don't mind. Would you recommend a drive up to Monchique for different scenery if we fancy a change from the beach life?
Thanks
Andy

Click Here for some of the routes we did back in June last year. Caldas de Monchique is definitely worth stopping off at. Only small but has a lovely little cafe with outdoor clay ovens where they make saugage in bread rolls. Slurp. :D

Thanks Glynis, One of my boys survives on eating sausages, one way of getting him off the beach i guess!

Andy,
It's got to be the most beautiful beach we've ever visited. Our Portuguese friends took us there twice last September.
If you drive to the 'Sail' roundabout on the eastern approach to Lagos and take the road signed Aljezur, it's a direct road to Aljezur- winding in places but not a difficult drive. You'll approach Aljezur down a hill and the road will take you right, across a bridge;turn left after you've crossed the bridge and look for a brown road sign marked Amoreira on your left not far up that road. This is a narrow lane,a couple of miles long, which will take you to Amoreira beach;to access the part of the beach shown in the photo, keep looking left and you'll see it between sand dunes - you'll be on the opposite side of the water to where the photo was taken from.Alternatively, go the full length of the road 'til you reach the beach bar (adequate bar with extensive menu but not cheap by beach bar standards), turn round and the access to the part of the beach shown is a couple of hundred yards on your right.(there were a couple of large litter bins opposite when we were there.
Hope you find it and enjoy it as much as we did.

andyblade- I was just reading a Telegraph article about Madeleine the missing girl- the Leicestershire police stated that Monchique is a well known hangout for German pedophiles. Forewarned etc...

Excellent directions Sagres, spent a couple of hours there last week and loved the beach, unfortunately the beach bar was being refurbed but had a great time relaxing and watching the surfers do there stuff.
