Hello
We are thinking of going on a villa holiday to Plaka in Crete.
We have a few questions that if anyone could answer it would be great
Would we need a car to get around??
what are the nearby resorts like for families?
Are there good restraunts nearby?
Any help info about the surrounding area would be great
Thanks in advance
Plaka is very nice and quiet. Some nice little restaurants on the beach front. Good fish restaurant! Small beach, think you would need a car though!
wish i could find a website with a photo that i had seen onces to show u the view from Plaka to Spinalonga. Go for it. nice idea. U will need a car as not easy to move around from there (some people do walk though from Plaka to Elounda). Food is good from what i remember in Plaka but dont expect big restaurants or something fancy.
There are two Plakas that we have been to. The one opposite Spinalonga, very quiet fishing resort near Elounda and the other is along from Chania towards Rethymnon also very quiet. Both very nice.
Is their any other advice that might help us in regards to taking an infant to crete, will it be too hot in september??
Thanks for the replys everyone
we have been in the beginning of september and it reached 36 degrees. too hot for even me. We have seen families with little babies on the beach and they always keep them under the umbrellas and covered up and they dont seem to have any problems, they might get a bit of heat rash though so it might be worth looking into how that can be prevented. I am sun sensitive and it takes a good few days for my skin to get used to it so stay in the shade a bit more at first.
gil16e ignore my posting as i was talking about the one in agios area.
we are looking at staying here http://www.jamesvillas.co.uk/regions/Crete/PlakaChania/Melina_2982.cfm?id=23976350,21611759590
nice food
We know the area a little, as we visited Crete about 10 years ago and briefly visited Kalives. Chania is a must to visit, a fanastic place to wander round the little backstreet shops or eat watching the sunset over the harbour. The villa looks lovely, let me know if you go for it!
Oops, just noticed the date of the original post which is quite old! If anyone has anything to add about Plaka or Almirida, I'd be interested anyway.

its not unusual to see older post resurected, they may have the info you require if not at least the other members know you have seen it
