Hi everyone
Me and my boyfriend are booked to stay at the bueno hotel in platanias in a few weeks.
The first choice brochure said it is situated in a quiet traditional location which suits us perfectly. We have been to greece a few times and love staying in local traditional villages.
However since researching it on internet, we have read lots of reviews that say it is bustling and very tourist built up.
Can anyone please tell me what resort is like?
Would be really grateful
Thanks
Lucy
welcome to the Greek forums of HT
I stay not so far from Platanias most years. It is far from being a quiet, traditional location. On the contrary it is very busy. You'll think you're in Stockholm or Oslo because it's full of scandinavians but with a Med. climate. But don't fret because you'll be in striking distance of the most beautiful (and traditional) areas of Crete. So hire a car and get up into the White Mountains. I know the general area well and have many friends there so I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
I wasn't expecting that!
What is the beach like? Any reccommendations on restaurants etc would be great.
Platanias beach is not great but if you take a 5 minute bus ride to agia marina (ask for santa Marina Hotel) you'll find a great sandy beach. If you do hire that car then visit Falasarna (voted best beach in Europe). Or try Elafonissis or Kalathas. All fabulous!
In Platanias you'll be made incredibly welcome at a restaurant called ÃŽâ€ÂÃÂÂÂοÃιά or drosia in our alphabet (Greek for dew or coolness). Walk west from the town centre (or left if facing the sea) and shortly after a small childrens' play area with go-carts etc turn left and you will see the restaurant immediately on the right. Very friendly with a good traditional kitchen.
Otherwise I recommend Troulakis which is on the beach just as you leave Platanias and enter Agia Marina. The owner is Costas and he'll treat you well. It's a beautiful spot at sunset.
I'll be in the area 22 July until 5 August. When are you going?
Thanks alot for that! Those restaurants sound lovely. Will be there from 28th July to 12th August! So excited now just counting down the days. Definitely going to hire the car. Want to travel round and see as much as possible:wave:
well my wife, 7 year old daughter and i will be at the Atrion, a well known hotel in Agia marina (next door to platanias). look us up if you want to (hotel telephone is +30 2821068636)... we'll be there 22 July to 5 august.
You must get into Chania (by bus is best). There is a brilliant restaurant called Karnagio. Just put karnagio chania into Google and it will come up on the http://www.crete.tournet.gr website. It's just off the main harbour so you avoid the rip-off prices.....but the quality is superb. Chania has loads to do. Not long to wait eh!
